The capital's education system has developed strongly in terms of scale and quality.

In his speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the capital's education and training sector (1954-2024), Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong affirmed that the development of Hanoi's education and training sector on the 70-year journey of tradition is a mirror reflecting the growth of the capital.

Over the past 70 years, with the continuous efforts of building, innovating and creating by generations of leaders, teachers and cadres; by implementing drastic and synchronous solutions, the education and training sector of the Capital has made great strides in terms of scale, quality and efficiency, worthy of being a major educational center; a place to train and provide important human resources for the cause of building the Capital and the country.

Looking back at the 70-year journey of building and developing the education and training sector in Hanoi, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong shared that in the early days of its establishment, the entire sector had 3 kindergartens, 96 primary schools, and 4 high schools, meeting only 20% of the number of children going to school.

Up to now, Hanoi's education and training sector has the largest scale in the country with 2,913 kindergartens, primary and secondary schools at all levels, nearly 2.3 million students, nearly 130,000 teachers, of which 342 teachers have been awarded the title "People's Teacher" and "Excellent Teacher" by the President. The rate of public schools meeting national standards accounts for nearly 80% of public schools meeting national standards... The network of schools and classes is increasingly expanded, investment in facilities is increased, gradually solidified, standardized and modernized, meeting the learning needs of the children of the capital's people and the requirements of training human resources in the new period.

Hanoi is one of the first four provinces and cities in the country to be recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as having achieved the standard of universal secondary education level 3. The city's overall high school graduation rate is 99.81%, ranking among the top 10 provinces and cities with the highest results...

The Minister stated that over the past 70 years of development, the Hanoi education and training sector has continuously strived to successfully complete assigned tasks, fulfilling its mission with the determination to comprehensively improve the quality of education, develop people, and train high-quality human resources for the capital and the country. The capital's education and training sector has always been one of the pioneers, leading in all tasks of the entire sector.

With the role of the education system of the capital of the whole country, the education and training sector of Hanoi has constantly strived to promote the proactive, positive and innovative capacity of the entire team of managers, teachers, staff and students, successfully completing the development requirements of the capital. Hanoi is one of the places that actively and systematically implements the 2018 General Education Program effectively. The quality of comprehensive education and mass education is constantly improved, spearhead education is always at the top of the country with nearly 2,500 awards at national excellent student competitions and medals at international competitions.

The achievements of the Capital's education over the past 70 years are an important premise, creating momentum for the Capital's education sector to continue to develop, overcome new challenges, and fulfill new missions to meet the development needs of the Capital in the new period.

“The capital’s education always faces high demands, high requirements, high standards, in exemplary, pioneering, top quality and is an example, a model for education in the whole country. Therefore, what the capital’s education has achieved and been recognized in the past time needs to be calculated with a multiplier and added value in recognition and evaluation,” the Minister emphasized.

The Minister requested the Education sector to continue advising the City's leaders to continue to remove difficulties and overcome challenges to continue sustainable development.

According to the Minister, education today emphasizes the comprehensive development of human beings as the focus and goal. In the comprehensive development of human beings, the education of the capital needs to aim higher than the general requirements of the whole country, aiming to educate and create elegant citizens of the capital, with cultural awareness, social responsibility and knowing how to live happily for themselves and for the community.

They are citizens with high cultural qualities, scientific and technological skills, civilized and elegant citizens of the digital age, good at expertise and good at foreign languages.

To do so, the education system of the capital must aim for an elegant education. In which, schools must be elegant schools, teachers and students must be elegant. There, schools must be places where students are guaranteed safety, no school violence, no swearing, no forced extra classes. There, social evils are avoided and there exists a typical cultural school environment. Most importantly, there, people treat each other with love and responsibility.

To have an elegant education system, the Minister believes that it is necessary to implement well the culture of education and cultural education. The elegance of education can be completely built on the good achievements that we have had and are having.

The Minister also noted that the capital's education needs to focus on solving urgent issues such as: Reducing the gap in education quality between regions and schools; reducing the gap between key education results and mass education so that students in any region, school, or class can access the best educational environment and quality.

The Capital's education also needs to better resolve the relationships between schools and society, schools and localities, teachers and parents, etc. to create an educational environment with proper order; where the quality of education is guaranteed, the dignity of the teaching profession is respected, teachers are exemplary, students are exemplary. Only with an elegant education system, aiming at international standards, can we create civilized and elegant people of the Capital in the new era.

The Minister hopes that the leaders of Hanoi City will continue to pay more attention and invest more in education through policies to support and better care for the teaching staff; by renovating and building more spacious, well-equipped classrooms, taking advantage of the regulations in the newly issued Capital Law to care for education.

On this occasion, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also honored 56 teachers who were recently awarded the titles of "People's Teacher" and "Excellent Teacher" by the President.
