World oil prices are on the rise. At the close of trading on March 27, WTI oil prices increased by 0.17% while Brent oil prices decreased by 0.09%.

Recorded on Oilprice at 4:00 a.m. on March 28, 2025 (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 69.72 USD/barrel, up 0.17% (equivalent to an increase of 0.12 USD/barrel).

Similarly, Brent oil price was at 73.80 USD/barrel, up 0.09% (equivalent to an increase of 0.07 USD/barrel).

US oil producers are grappling with geological limits to output growth as the country’s top oilfields age, produce more water and gas, and produce less oil — and may be approaching peak production.

The Permian Basin is at the heart of the shale revolution that began nearly two decades ago, propelling the United States to become the world’s top oil producer, taking market share from OPEC and other major producers. Slowing production growth and rising costs will make it harder for oil producers to pump more oil and lower prices for consumers, as President Donald Trump envisioned in his “drill, drill, drill” slogan.

The Permian is currently pumping 6.5 million barrels per day (bpd), a record and nearly half the all-time high of 13.5 million bpd the US produced in December.

But the Permian is showing signs of weakness. Since the widespread adoption of hydraulic fracturing, the technique that sparked the shale revolution in the mid-2000s, thousands of wells have drilled deep into the Permian, fracturing rock to extract oil and gas. The relentless drilling to achieve record production has depleted the cores of the Permian’s two largest subbasins: nearly two-thirds of the Midland formation has been cored, and more than half of the Delaware formation, according to data from analytics software company Novi Labs.

“We’ve never been in a position like we are now, where the Permian Basin reserves story is in the second half,” said Brandon Myers, director of research at Novi Labs.

This has set off alarm bells across the industry, as drilling on the basin edge, into areas with lower-quality prospects, means less oil and more water and gas. Analysts and executives are discussing the issue with a growing sense of urgency on conference calls and earnings calls.

"We think that in the 2027 to 2030 timeframe, the U.S. will likely peak production, and then there will be a decline," Occidental (OXY.N) Chief Executive Vicki Hollub said earlier this month at an industry conference in Houston.

Harold Hamm, founder of shale oil producer Continental Resources and a key figure in the US shale boom, agreed, saying at the same conference that US oil production has begun to level off.

Currently, production is still increasing.

Shale executives expect Permian oil production growth to slow by about 25% this year, to 250,000 to 300,000 bpd. The government estimates a higher growth rate of about 350,000 bpd, but even that would be the basin’s smallest oil production increase since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by VND337/liter, to VND20,032/liter; RON 95 gasoline increased by VND337/liter, to VND20,424/liter.

Similarly, the price of diesel 0.05S: increased by 324 VND/liter, to 18,217 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 406 VND/liter, to 18,524 VND/liter; mazut 180CST 3.5S decreased by 53 VND/kg, to 16,902 VND/kg.

In this management period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance did not set aside or use the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, and mazut oil.

Thus, from the beginning of 2025 to now, domestic gasoline prices have undergone 13 adjustment sessions, including 5 decrease sessions, 5 increase sessions and 3 opposite sessions.
