Many experts believe that in 2025, the pepper export market will have many advantages, and the decrease in output in some places will help pepper prices continue to remain high.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in 2025, global pepper output is forecast to continue to decrease while stable consumption demand is the driving force for Vietnam's pepper exports this year.
However, depending on the purchasing pace of important markets such as the United States and China, the price range may increase sharply or only about 10-15% compared to present. Therefore, businesses need to closely monitor market developments and purchasing movements from partners to have appropriate purchasing, storage, and cash flow plans, both increasing output and export turnover and ensuring business efficiency.
According to the General Department of Customs (Ministry of Finance), in the first half of January 2025, Vietnam exported 7,313 tons of pepper with a total turnover of 48.3 million USD, down 3% in volume but up 61.86% in value over the same period in 2024.
Farmers in Gia Lai province harvest pepper. |
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, the pepper growing area of the whole country will be about 113,000 hectares, with an estimated output of 190,000 tons. It is expected that the pepper growing area may decrease to about 110,000 hectares in the coming time. The main reasons for the decrease are the effects of weather, pests and diseases, and the sharp increase in prices of some other agricultural products such as durian and coffee in recent times.
However, the Vietnamese pepper industry is shifting from increasing acreage to improving quality, promoting deep processing, diversifying products, and diversifying markets to penetrate deeply into the global pepper supply chain.
Currently, farmers in the Central Highlands provinces have begun the pepper harvest with optimism as prices show many positive signs, increasing compared to the same period last year. Experts say that with increasing global demand, pepper prices may continue to increase sharply from the beginning of 2025, opening up development opportunities for the pepper production and export industry.
