Steel prices on the exchange

Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for October 2025 delivery fell 9 yuan to 3,316 yuan/t.

Benchmark March iron ore SZZFH5 on the Singapore Exchange rose 0.46 percent to $106.95 a tonne, posting a 0.6 percent weekly gain. The contract hit a four-month high of $108.80 earlier in the session.

Australia's largest iron ore port is expected to reopen after avoiding any major damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Zelia.

The powerful storm passed over the coast about 60 km (37 miles) east of Port Hedland, home to the export port, with wind gusts of about 270 km/h near the center of the storm. The strong winds flattened buildings and bent power lines.

Australia is the largest shipper of iron ore, with the steelmaking material accounting for 21% of total exports of goods and services in the year to June 2024, worth A$138 billion ($87 billion).

While export ports have been hit by heavy rains this year from a series of storms, this is the first storm of the season to make landfall and threaten mining operations and rail lines. Storm Sean damaged a port facility owned by Rio Tinto Plc last month, but the storm remained offshore.

However, the most-traded May iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) DCIOcv1 erased earlier gains to fall 0.98% to 810.5 yuan ($111.45) a tonne, posting a weekly loss of 1.2%.

Other steelmaking components on the DCE also fell, with coking coal DJMcv1 and DCJcv1 down 2.21% and 1.41%, respectively.

Steel benchmarks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange continued to fall. Rebar SRBcv1 fell 0.46%, hot-rolled coil SHHCcv1 fell 0.53%, wire rod SWRcv1 fell 0.71%, and stainless steel SHHScv1 fell 0.15%.
