The world’s major coffee sources all saw sharp declines, with South American supplies down 2.1% and Asian supplies down 31.2%. In Asia, the major sources of supply were Vietnam, India and Indonesia, while African supplies increased by 8%, but production was negligible, according to the ICO.

World coffee prices hit record highs on both the London and New York derivatives exchanges, setting new price records.

Domestic coffee prices are expected to rebound after a sharp increase in the world market. Coffee prices today, February 13, are trading in the range of 131,800 - 133,000 VND/kg. With new record prices, coffee exports in 2025 continue to promise a bumper crop.

Immediately after the downward adjustment session, coffee prices on both exchanges increased sharply. Speculative capital continued to flow into coffee, especially Arabica coffee in the current context. Meanwhile, the high sea freight rates since the beginning of the year have caused coffee prices to continuously reach new peaks.

Thus, although 2025 has only been over a month, this is the third time that coffee prices have recorded a new record. The most recent time was on January 31, when coffee prices reached 5,734 USD/ton. Experts and businesses have used the word "crazy" to describe the coffee market in recent times, especially after Tet. The coffee price fever seems to show no signs of stopping due to continued limited global supply and recent trade tensions between many countries.

The latest report from the International Coffee Organization (ICO) shows that in December 2024, global coffee exports decreased by 12.4% compared to the same period last year, bringing the total coffee exports in the first 3 months of the 2024-2025 crop down 0.8% compared to the previous crop. On the other hand, the world's largest coffee consumer is the United States, which is estimated to consume about 1.44 million tons of coffee per year in 2024. This figure is equivalent to the amount of coffee exported by Vietnam, the world's second largest coffee supplier. The US coffee industry's revenue reached 19.7 billion USD and is expected to continue to increase in 2025.

The Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association assessed that the 2024-2025 crop year is full of challenges but also has many bright spots. The Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee growing region, continues to face weather fluctuations. However, thanks to the proactive adaptation of farmers, along with support from businesses and local authorities, the quality of Vietnamese coffee is increasingly improving.
