In a post on the social network Truth Social, US President Donald Trump explained the mechanism of reciprocal tariffs, and affirmed that the recent decision to impose tariffs was made for "fair purposes", according to Fox News .

"Based on US policy, we will treat countries using the VAT system, but even more punitive, as a form of import tax," Mr. Trump explained.

In addition, the US leader emphasized that sending goods, products, or anything under another name through a third country "with the purpose of unfairly harming the United States will not be accepted".

“Similarly, there will be additional provisions for non-monetary tariffs and trade barriers that some countries use to keep our goods out of their markets, or to keep American businesses out,” Mr. Trump added.

According to Mr. Trump, the above statements are “fair to all” and no country can complain.

In some cases, if a country feels that the US is imposing too high a tariff on them, all it needs to do is reduce or end its tariffs on the US.

In addition, Mr. Trump emphasized that there will be no tariffs if countries produce or manufacture products in the US.

At the end of the post, the White House boss said the new tax regulation would immediately bring fairness and prosperity to the US trading system.

“The United States has supported many countries over the years with large financial grants. Now it is time for countries to remember that and treat the United States fairly,” Mr. Trump said.

In recent weeks, Mr. Trump has announced a 25% tariff on aluminum and steel imported into the U.S. The White House previously proposed a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, which has now been postponed, along with a 10% tariff on imports from China.
