Nearly 400 hectares of winter crops infected with pests and diseases

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has planted nearly 6,300/7,070ha of winter corn, reaching nearly 90% of the plan. Green vegetables have been planted nearly 4,800/5,788ha, reaching about 83% of the plan. However, through field inspection, some corn and vegetable areas were found to be infected with pests.

Specifically, nearly 390 hectares of winter corn were infected with fall armyworm, of which 320 hectares were infected at a mild level, the rest at a moderate level. In addition to corn, nearly 10 hectares of green vegetables were infected with green worms and whiteflies at a mild level.

Immediately after discovering the infected corn and vegetable areas, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to request Crop Production and Plant Protection stations to coordinate with localities to organize pest control to avoid widespread spread and damage to winter crop production.

At the same time, to ensure the winter crop production plan and limit the situation of abandoning fields and crops, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested districts, cities and towns to strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to encourage farmers to speed up production progress; select crops with high economic value in the winter crop such as biomass corn, waxy corn, sweet corn, potatoes, beans of all kinds; cold-loving vegetables and fruits...

In addition, the Plant Protection and Cultivation Stations need to regularly inspect the fields to promptly detect and prevent and control pests and diseases of winter crops.
