According to GadgetMatch , over the past few years, Meta has been integrating the company's various platforms into one ecosystem. Currently, Facebook and Instagram users can chat with each other on their respective apps. But users who frequently interact cross-platform just got some bad news, as Meta decided to remove this ability in December.
On the new support page, Instagram announced that the chat feature between the two platforms will no longer be available from mid-December. However, the specific time has not been confirmed by the platform.
Facebook and Instagram will no longer be able to message each other
Once the interaction shutdown is implemented, Instagram users will no longer be able to start new conversations with Facebook users. Additionally, all existing conversations between the two platforms will be turned read-only, meaning users will no longer be able to add new messages to the conversation.
On the other hand, Facebook users will no longer be able to see Instagram users' activity status from their platform. Cross-platform chats will also not appear on Messenger from the time the change is implemented.
Meta has not yet provided a clear explanation for why it is making the change to cross-platform interoperability. It is possible that the company will implement a better solution in the future. Currently, European Union regulations require large companies to have interoperability across different platforms.
