In the 2021 - 2025 period, Hanoi aims to have 2,000 products evaluated and classified under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program. With high determination, it is expected that by the end of 2024, Hanoi will complete the Program's goals for the entire 2021 - 2025 period, 1 year ahead of schedule. Based on the achieved results, Hanoi will continue to develop OCOP products for the next period in the direction of improving quality and efficiency. The City's goal is to turn OCOP products into strong brands that are recognized and consumed by a large number of domestic and international consumers.

Completing the plan ahead of schedule Phu Nghia Commune, Chuong My District is considered the cradle of rattan and bamboo weaving. Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Van Trung, Chairman of Phu Vinh Rattan and Bamboo Weaving Association - Phu Nghia Commune, Chuong My District, said that the commune has the most certified OCOP products in the district with 54 products. Of which, his family alone has 23 certified products. “Since being certified as OCOP, we have been very excited. Customers can rest assured because having a certificate means that the product meets the criteria of quality and design. In 2024, Phu Vinh Rattan and Bamboo Weaving Association with only 35 members has exported more than 100 billion VND. Developing production not only contributes to maintaining, preserving and developing the craft village, but also promotes brand building, expanding the consumer market; at the same time, creating jobs and increasing income for people in the region" - Mr. Trung shared. Chuong My is a district with many traditional craft villages, which is an important basis for developing OCOP products. According to the Head of the District Economic Department, Tong Van Thai, the district currently has 35 villages recognized by the City People's Committee as craft villages, traditional craft villages, of which the majority are rattan and bamboo weaving villages for export; handicraft wooden products production, conical hat making, stone carving, and agricultural and food processing. Up to now, the district has 210 certified OCOP products. Meanwhile, Dan Phuong district has 105 certified OCOP products. These are all typical and characteristic products closely associated with local traditions, culture and identity. OCOP products of Dan Phuong district are diverse, belonging to the food group, beverage group, herbal group, and handicraft group such as Phung traditional spring rolls of Thai Cam establishment, Phung town; sweet potato cocoon of Nguyen Van Thin business household, Trung Chau commune; peanut candy of Do Van Truong production and business household, Song Phuong commune; Sticky rice wine of Nguyen Van Long business household and tofu of Tam Duc Company Limited, Hong Ha commune; wooden furniture of Lien Trung carpentry village; Dong Thap gerbera flowers, Dong Thap commune... Mr. Nguyen Van Chi, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office, Office of the Coordination of the New Rural Development Program of Hanoi city said: “In the period of 2021 - 2025, Hanoi aims to have 2,000 products evaluated and classified as OCOP. With great efforts and determination, from 2019 to the end of 2023, Hanoi city has evaluated and classified 2,711 products. Of which, from 2021 to the end of 2023 alone, the city has evaluated 1,657 products. Currently, the work of evaluating and recognizing products in 2024 is being carried out with more than 500 registered products. It is expected that by the end of 2024, Hanoi will complete the OCOP Program's goals for the entire 2021 - 2025 period, 1 year ahead of schedule". After being certified as an OCOP product, the subjects will be supported by the City and district to design packaging, labels, and support OCOP stamps with QR codes. The City and districts, towns and cities are also interested in organizing events, fairs and seminars to promote the recovery and development of trade service activities, trade connection, trade promotion, and consumer demand stimulation. Support OCOP product subjects in production and business to boost the production of quality products, encourage the development of goods and products associated with civilized and modern electronic trade and services. Up to now, the City has also developed 107 points of introduction and sale of OCOP products, creating conditions for consumers in the capital to identify and consume.

Towards new goals In addition to the achieved results, the Office of the Coordination of the New Rural Development Program of the city also pointed out that Hanoi's OCOP Program still faces difficulties and limitations: The number of 5-star OCOP products recognized is not much, only 6 products have been recognized; some enterprises, cooperatives, households producing and trading agricultural products and craft villages are not really interested in participating in the Program; policies to support product development are still limited; the consumption market has not really been expanded... Pointing out the key tasks that need to be carried out in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hanoi said: "Products participating in the OCOP Program are both to honor and to raise the level and price. Hanoi will restore specialty varieties such as Tich Giang tangerines, Yen Thon persimmons, Que Duong grapefruits, Sen Chieu royal water spinach, Lang basil... to become OCOP products. If the typical and distinctive products of those regions are "starred" with OCOP, it will help increase the economic value of the products and promote regional culture. The city will also develop OCOP tourism products in advantageous places such as Son Tay, Ba Vi, Soc Son... linking culture and local products to form a tourism chain... According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai, each year Hanoi welcomes nearly 30 million tourists, including more than 5 million international visitors. If each tourist coming to Hanoi buys a gift, it will greatly stimulate demand for OCOP products because most of these products carry the characteristics, quintessence of regional culture and the thoughts and feelings of Hanoians sent into each OCOP product. Not to mention, the city also has about 10 million people living and working, the demand for OCOP products is very large. So, how can Hanoi exploit this advantage? Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai pointed out: “The quality of Hanoi’s craft village products and processed agricultural products is very good. However, the weakness of Hanoi’s OCOP products is creative design. Today’s consumers no longer have the mentality of “good wood is better than good paint” as before, but require products to be “beautiful inside and out”, from quality to design. Hanoi’s OCOP products need to invest more in design and product packaging to suit the consumer tastes of each region and each country that the product is targeting.” Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai said that in the coming time, the Department will continue to support the promotion and consumption of OCOP products and craft village products through supermarket systems, safe agricultural and food stores, handicraft stores, OCOP product consulting and sales points, e-commerce platforms, online sales... so that OCOP products become a strong brand recognized and consumed by a large number of domestic and international consumers. The city will also promote international cooperation activities to help OCOP products and craft village products reach more potential markets. In the long term, the city needs to promote the historical and cultural values of craft villages and local specialty agricultural products in schools to educate the younger generation about love and pride in their homeland, thereby motivating future generations to be aware from a young age of preserving and developing that precious asset.
