Domestic data says 2

The Vietnamese stock market has had a volatile year. The stocks of some tycoons have plummeted, leaving only two dollar billionaires in Vietnam. This number will be six in 2022 and eight in 2021.

Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vingroup Corporation, continues to be the richest person on the Vietnamese stock market with total assets of up to VND92,803 billion (equivalent to USD3.8 billion).

Mr. Vuong's assets on the stock market are calculated through VIC shares of Vingroup Corporation, through direct and indirect ownership. The value of VIC shares owned by Mr. Vuong is much higher than that of the other tycoons.

The second and last dollar billionaire of Vietnam in 2023 is Mr. Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoa Phat Group with 41,925 billion VND (about 1.72 billion USD).

In 2023, HPG is a rare giant stock that not only did not decline but also improved significantly. Closing the last trading session of 2023, HPG stopped at VND 27,950/share, up VND 9,950/share, equivalent to 55.3%. Thanks to that, Hoa Phat Group's market capitalization increased by VND 57,857 billion.

As the largest shareholder of Hoa Phat Group, Mr. Tran Dinh Long's assets increased by 14,253 billion VND.

Some tycoons are no longer dollar billionaires but are still in the Top 10 richest people on the Vietnamese stock market, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet Air (23,739 billion VND), Mr. Do Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sunshine Group (23,206 billion VND), Mr. Ho Hung Anh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank - Techcombank (19,010 billion VND), Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masan Group (18,413 billion VND).

Forbes "said" 6

It can be seen that, according to domestic stock data, by the end of 2023, Vietnam will have only 2 dollar billionaires, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and Mr. Tran Dinh Long. However, according to the list published by Forbes, Vietnam has up to 6 dollar billionaires.

The 6 Vietnamese dollar billionaires recognized by Forbes are Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Mr. Tran Dinh Long, Mr. Tran Ba Duong and his family, Mr. Ho Hung Anh and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang.

According to Forbes, the assets of Vietnamese billionaires are higher than stock data in Vietnam.

Specifically, as of December 31, 2023, according to Forbes, the value of assets owned by Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong is worth up to 4.7 billion USD (about 114.68 billion VND), a slight increase compared to the figure of 4.3 billion USD at the beginning of 2023. Currently, Mr. Vuong is the 633rd richest person in the world.

On the Vietnamese stock market, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao "only" owns shares worth VND23,739 billion (about USD973 million), but according to Forbes, Ms. Thao's assets are much higher, up to USD2.4 billion, a slight increase compared to USD2.2 billion at the beginning of this year.

According to domestic data, Mr. Tran Dinh Long is the second richest person in Vietnam, but according to Forbes data, Mr. Long is in third place with 2.3 billion USD. Mr. Long's assets have increased sharply compared to the figure of 1.8 billion USD in March this year.

Mr. Tran Ba Duong has never been on the list of the richest people on the Vietnamese stock exchange because Thaco, Mr. Duong’s main corporation, has not had any listed shares. However, for many years, Forbes has still included him on the list of Vietnam’s dollar billionaires with assets of about 1.5 billion USD.

Mr. Ho Hung Anh and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang close the list of Vietnam's dollar billionaires with assets of 1.4 billion USD and 1 billion USD respectively. Both billionaires own large amounts of MSN shares of Masan Group and TCB shares of Techcombank.
