Previously, on November 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision 1473/QD-TTg ranking the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail as a special national monument.
The certificate of ranking the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea as a special national monument was granted to the following localities: Hai Phong City (departure port) and the provinces of Phu Yen (Vung Ro), Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Ca Mau (opening port).
According to the Propaganda Department of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee, the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, including Vung Ro wharf, is an important link in the military transport system supporting the southern battlefield.
From November 28, 1964 to early 1965, Vung Ro wharf welcomed unnumbered ships four times.
Of these, 3 times we successfully welcomed ship 41 (an iron-hulled ship captained by Hero of the People's Armed Forces Ho Dac Thanh) into the port, receiving 200 tons of weapons; 1 time we welcomed ship 143 (an iron-hulled ship captained by Le Van Them carrying 63 tons of cargo) into the port but before it could leave the port, it was discovered by the enemy, and our army blew up and sank the ship to erase all traces.
The shipments provided weapons, medicine, etc., creating conditions for the army and people of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Dak Lak to continuously defeat the enemy on the battlefield, liberating many large areas.
The Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea is the name of the strategic logistics route in the East Sea, ensuring special military transport missions, carried out by the Vietnam People's Navy and the Liberation Army of South Vietnam.
The route was established on October 23, 1961. During its 14 years of operation (1961 - 1975), the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail transported more than 100,000 tons of military goods, along with tens of thousands of cadres from the North to the South, contributing to the victory of the cause of liberating the South and unifying the country.
