A strong cold spell is affecting our country, causing severe cold in the North and heavy rain in the Central region.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, cold air is flowing in, causing the North and North Central regions to turn very cold. The lowest temperature in the North is generally 9-12 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 5-8 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas below 3 degrees Celsius. In the North Central region, the temperature is generally 11-14 degrees Celsius. From Quang Binh to Hue, the temperature is generally 14-16 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi weather is very cold, with the lowest temperature commonly 10-12 degrees Celsius. People need to proactively protect people and pets from the cold, especially children and the elderly.

From the night of February 7 to the morning of February 8, the North and Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will have rain. From the night of February 7 to February 9, the area from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa will have rain, showers, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms.

At sea, strong winds and large waves affect the operation of ships. In the Gulf of Tonkin, the northeast wind is strong at level 6, sometimes at level 7, gusting to level 8-9, with rough seas. In other sea areas, the wind gradually increases to level 6, sometimes at level 7, gusting to level 7-9, with rough seas.

This severe cold spell is likely to last until around February 10. Snow and ice are likely to occur in the mountainous areas of the North. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains may cause flooding, flash floods and landslides.
