Dr. Tran Nam Dung - Vice Principal of the Gifted High School - said that today (February 7), the school's Math team said goodbye to one of Vietnam's math "legends", Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh.

Mr. Dung also said that Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh was born on May 19, 1962, and according to regulations, he will retire in 2022, but the school continues to invite him to be the Head of the Math Group. Recently, Dr. Trinh expressed his wish to retire from management work and also to "make room" for young people.

Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh has stopped holding the position of Head of the Department but is still an advisor to the school on training excellent students and is a geometry teacher.

Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh has been the Head of the Math Team since 1993, which is exactly 32 years. Under his leadership, the school's Math team has won hundreds of national prizes, of which more than half of the years have won first prize. Notably, the Math Team has contributed 20 international and regional medals, including 5 gold medals.

Most recently, in the national excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year, all 10 students of the Math team of the Gifted High School won prizes. Four students were called to participate in the selection of the Vietnamese team to compete internationally in mid-March...

Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh was born in 1962 in Hue. At the 1979 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in England, he won a gold medal with a perfect score of 40/40, and also received a special prize for his unique solution.

He pursued a career in research and teaching Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Natural Sciences and High School for the Gifted. For many years, Dr. Trinh was one of the leaders of the Vietnamese student team participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
