On September 22, the patient went to the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital for examination. Doctors suspected that the patient had monkeypox, so they took samples and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. On September 23, the results were positive for monkeypox virus.

This is the first case of monkeypox with a permanent address in Dong Nai province and the source of infection has not been identified.

The patient had the onset of the disease while in Ho Chi Minh City and had contact with 4 family members, but the incubation period was not during the infectious period of monkeypox, so the risk of infection was very low.

Previously, on September 16, the patient had contact with his girlfriend in Tan Uyen City (Binh Duong Province). This person is currently showing symptoms of a rash around the genitals and CDC Dong Nai has transferred the information to CDC Binh Duong for verification, investigation and handling.
