Merging Tay Do Theater, establishing new Can Tho Cultural and Arts Center

On April 18, Chairman of the City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen signed a decision to establish the Can Tho City Cultural and Arts Center under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City. This center was established on the basis of merging Tay Do Theater and Can Tho City Cultural Center.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee assigned the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho City to implement related contents on regulations on functions, tasks, organizational structure, job positions and number of employees according to regulations, ensuring streamlining and effective use of the assigned number of employees.

According to this decision, the Can Tho City Cultural and Arts Center after the merger is a public service unit whose budget guarantees a part of regular expenses.

Tay Do Theater was established and put into operation in 2007 on the basis of repairing and upgrading the old Hau Giang Theater. The theater has a 550-seat theater, an area of ​​about ^1,000m2 , including two professional art troupes: Tay Do Cai Luong Troupe and Luu Huu Phuoc Song and Dance Drama Troupe.

Tay Do Theater has the function of organizing professional art forms such as reformed opera, music, dance, drama; training, teaching, researching, preserving folk art forms such as Southern folk songs, Southern ceremonial music, and opera; introducing and popularizing new works of art, etc.
