Strengthening links and cooperation

At the conference, Ms. Kang Da-eun, Secretary General of TPO shared: This conference is a very important opportunity to enhance the position and presence of Vietnamese tourist cities in the international network. “This is an opportunity to share views and experiences on destination development, as well as discuss criteria and standards to improve the quality and competitiveness of destinations in the region. The conference will create more opportunities for cooperation and promote new initiatives among TPO members,” Ms. Kang Da-eun said.

According to Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang, in recent times, Hanoi has focused resources to increase promotion in key markets, of which Korea is one of the big potential markets. Hanoi's tourism products are very suitable for this market such as golf tourism, resort tourism, MICE tourism, cultural and historical tourism, etc. "Hanoi hopes that the TPO Secretariat will have more practical activities to enhance the connection between Korean cities and Vietnamese cities," Ms. Dang Huong Giang expressed.

Regarding Vietnam tourism activities, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu said that Vietnamese members have had valuable experiences and demonstrated active and effective participation in TPO activities. Prominent tourist centers such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Hue, Da Nang, etc. are increasingly becoming attractive destinations, contributing to enhancing the position of Vietnam tourism on the regional and world map.

“In the context of global tourism recovering and transforming strongly, the connecting role of TPO is becoming increasingly important. Especially through the application of technology, implementing specific action programs to build connecting tourism routes, enhance exchanges and form a network of destinations between member cities. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is committed to always accompanying localities, businesses and members of TPO in Vietnam,” Mr. Ha Van Sieu expressed.

Product innovation with technology

With the theme “Shaping unique tourism products: Increasing the attractiveness of Vietnamese cities”, the conference focused on discussing strategies for developing creative tourism products, creating highlights to attract international visitors and enhancing the competitiveness of TPO member cities.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long, Head of the Faculty of Tourism Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) opened by stating that the tourism industry is facing increasingly fierce competition between destinations. The three biggest challenges the tourism industry will face include: rising travel costs, lack of quality accommodation, and the impact of global economic instability.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long, sustainable and responsible tourism is no longer a slogan but one of the important criteria in choosing a destination. Currently, there are a number of tourism trends attracting tourists, such as: personalized and independent tourism; health and wellness tourism; workation tourism trend... Therefore, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long believes that Vietnam needs to act quickly to seize opportunities and solve problems such as seasonality. "Management agencies need to loosen visas, simplify procedures to increase competitiveness with countries in the region; invest in synchronous infrastructure, especially connecting transportation, accommodation and digital technology at destinations," Mr. Pham Hong Long suggested.

Proposing effective solutions to attract international visitors, Ms. Mai Thy, Vietnam Market Manager of Traveloka, proposed four important strategies including: Building destination brands and digital marketing with creative storytelling campaigns; utilizing OTAs to expand the market; promoting public-private partnerships to synchronize infrastructure, transportation and visa procedures; and developing sustainable tourism.

Representing the destination that is developing effective community tourism in Hanoi, which is Hong Van Community Tourism Area (recently honored with the ASEAN Community Tourism Award 2024), Vice Chairman of Hong Van Commune People's Committee, Deputy of Hong Van Tourism Area Management Board - Nguyen Van Phuong shared: to enhance the destination, Hong Van determined to develop 4 key tourism products: Spiritual tourism - fairyland, education, agriculture - ornamental craft village and MICE tourism. In addition, the locality will promote creative products: Culinary and art tourism, combined with agricultural and traditional craft village experiences; strengthen promotion and digital transformation; improve accommodation, food and beverage, transportation services; train a team of professional tour guides...

TPO (Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities) is a large tourism organization headquartered in Busan, South Korea, operating with the main purpose of promoting the development and prosperity of member cities through cooperation between cities in the field of tourism.

TPO currently has 137 member cities in 16 countries. Of which, Vietnam has 8 provinces and cities that are members of TPO: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, Da Lat, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Long An, Vung Tau. Hanoi officially joined TPO in 2008.

From March 26 to 28, 2025, on the sidelines of the Conference, there will be many sightseeing and experience activities. Delegates will visit the exhibition area, introducing Hanoi tourism in the Conference premises with products, publications, gifts of Hanoi tourism, outstanding OCOP products of the Capital serving tourism....
