Businesses commit to having enough gasoline for Tet

VnExpressVnExpress06/02/2024

Key businesses said they have prepared response plans to ensure sufficient supply of gasoline for sale during the Lunar New Year.

Reporting at a working session with leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the morning of February 6, Chairman of the Board of Members of Mipecorp Nguyen Nhu Chien said that this enterprise imported enough gasoline and oil according to the assigned plan, ensuring supply for Tet and the whole year of 2024. This year, Mipecorp was assigned a quota that increased by 30% compared to the 2023 plan, an increase of 18% compared to the implementation of 2023.

Similarly, Mr. Dao Nam Hai, General Director of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), said that he has developed a plan to create resources from the end of 2023 with a long-term import plan to meet about 70% of the expected sales volume.

In January alone, Petrolimex imported over 1 million m3 of various types of gasoline and oil, an increase of more than 10% over the same period last year. This figure also increased by about 10% compared to the total average monthly allocation. The Group also developed scenarios to cope with different situations.

In the South, according to Mr. Vo Van Tan, Chairman of Petroleum Company Zone II, the total supply of petroleum from February 5 to February 20 at Nha Be General Warehouse is 650,000 m3, ensuring supply for Tet with 31 days of circulation (at peak). Of which, gasoline is enough for 38 days of circulation, diesel for 27 days.

According to Mr. Vo Van Tan, Nha Be Petroleum Depot has developed plans, arranged workers to be on duty, and delivered petroleum every day during the holidays (except the first day of Tet). At Saigon Petroleum Branch, 100% of stores are open during Tet, with inner-city stores open 24/7 and suburban stores open from 5am to 8pm.

According to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, the supply of petroleum in 2024 is forecast to continue to be difficult due to complicated world geopolitics. Factors that could cause supply disruptions include increasingly fierce strategic competition between major countries, conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip that may continue, and the risk of conflict in the Red Sea region...

At the same time, OPEC is expected to continue cutting oil production, US fuel reserves are decreasing, and the uncertain global economic outlook will also directly affect world oil supply and prices.

Therefore, the Minister requested businesses such as Petrolimex and Mipecorp to develop networks, proactively build backup plans, and ensure enough gasoline and oil for the economy.

He suggested that businesses closely follow market developments, arrange human resources, organize on-call duty or overtime to maintain regular and continuous sales activities for the market during and after Tet.

According to the forecast of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the total minimum source of petroleum in 2024 is nearly 28.42 million m3/ton of all types (an increase of 2.4 million m3/ton compared to 2023). To ensure enough petroleum for the market, the management scenario proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade is to be implemented monthly and quarterly. In unusual situations, enterprises will proactively reflect and propose policy mechanisms or temporary solutions to state management agencies.
