Socialization, creativity, diversity and rejuvenation
Artist Bui Minh Son - Chairman of the Art Council of the HCM City Art Association mentioned 5 important issues in "Orientation for the development of Vietnamese photography" in his speech, including: socializing the photography movement, creating styles, diversifying photographic art creation, rejuvenating photo appraisal thinking, and exploiting the photography market.
Artist Bui Minh Son emphasized the difficult situation of photography organizations under the Cultural and Artistic Associations of provinces and cities, especially the financial problem that depends mainly on the State budget. The Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association found that socialization is an effective solution, combined with competitions, business connections and support from sponsors. Artist Bui Thanh Son's speech also mentioned the need to encourage the participation of "Civil Photography" organizations and the relationship with the Photography group on social networks.
Creative style is at the forefront of Vietnamese photography, with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists focusing on the purpose and meaning of creativity through the competition. Diversity in photography is also an important theme, and the Society needs to expand its competitions and exhibitions to accommodate a wider range of creative directions, styles and subjects. Special attention to the creative potential of its members and the provision of opportunities for particular genres of photography are highlighted in the article.
Artist Bui Minh Son also mentioned the need to rejuvenate thinking in photo appraisal work, with the proposal to update knowledge and pre-production technology. According to Artist Bui Minh Son, the research on applying digital technology to expand the photography market through a "photo bank" and a website introducing members' works is proposed as an important step to increase the presence and international opportunities for the art of photography.
Vietnamese Photography in the Ocean of Digital Technology
Theoretical critic Tran Quoc Dung (Member of the Theoretical Criticism Board of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists) said: In the context of the continuous development of digital technology, Vietnamese photography faces both challenges and opportunities. The transition from mechanical and film cameras to digital cameras, computers, and image processing software, at the same time, highlights the important role of photography in many different fields.
In addition to mentioning the improvement of image quality and diversity in use, the paper also focused on the challenges of professional ethics and copyright management under the impact of digital technology. The need to maintain the traditional nature and control the use of technology to protect the historical and cultural values of Vietnamese photography was emphasized.
While AI technology offers many useful applications, the paper also emphasizes the need to clearly distinguish between authentic photographic works and products created by artificial intelligence. At the same time, there is a need for legal regulations to protect copyright and professional ethics.
On a positive note, the paper by photography critic Tran Quoc Dung suggests socializing photography and utilizing social resources to bring it closer to the community. Photography needs to continue to strongly develop a team of young artists who will shape creativity in the industry. At the same time, the article encourages the participation of young people through competitions and policies to retain young people in the Association.
Opportunities and challenges in the technology era
Talking about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the assessment, scoring and selection of Vietnamese art photos, NSNA Quang Ba Hai Chi, Vice President of NSNAVN Da Nang, said: ''Photography is not only an art but also a source of information and conveys human emotions. His presentation mentioned the important role of assessment and scoring of art photos in creation and exhibition publication''.
With the development of digital technology today, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in photography evaluation promises to bring many advantages and at the same time faces new challenges. NSNA Quang Ba Hai analyzes important aspects of applying AI in photography, from recognition and analysis features to saving time and encouraging diversity and creativity.
In addition, NSNA Quang Ba Hai also mentioned the modernization trend through the use of Youtube in communication and popularization of Vietnamese photography. Along with advantages such as the ability to control views and convenience for viewers, Youtube opens up new opportunities for Vietnamese photography with the ability to advertise and earn income from this platform.
The presentation of NSNA Quang Ba Hai emphasized the need to preserve artistic values and human judgment in the technological era, while proposing protective measures such as copyright to minimize the disadvantages of using technology. This transformation opens up new space for creativity and development of Vietnamese photography in the modern era.
Youtube - An indispensable channel in the information age
According to NSNA Duy Anh, Youtube plays a very important role in today's era. People can access content anytime, anywhere as long as they have an internet connection. TV stations and newspapers are facing difficulties while Youtube brings convenience and easy access.
For Vietnamese Photography, Youtube opens up great opportunities with thousands of members and collaborators, sharing beautiful and artistic images. NSNA Duy Anh emphasized the advantages of using Youtube, in addition to the ability to store a large amount of diverse videos, convenient for viewers, also the ability to control, register, and interact with the community.
At the same time, NSNA Duy Anh also mentioned the possibility of making money through advertising on Youtube, opening up opportunities for income and promotion for Vietnamese photography. Although the disadvantages as well as the possibility of content copying are mentioned, measures to protect and create content can minimize this problem.
With the development and convenience that Youtube brings, Vietnamese Photography can fully utilize its potential on this platform, contributing to the diversity and richness in the fields of art and media.
Concluding the discussion, NSNA Tran Thi Thu Dong, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations and President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, emphasized that after the discussion, we received four important presentations from four different artists. These opinions contained many interesting and attractive contents, and at the same time created many lively discussions.
For the field of culture and art in general, the implementation of theoretical criticism, especially in the field of photography, is considered extremely important. However, it is assessed that currently there is very little theoretical photography. Therefore, the comments from the 4 reporters were assessed as very positive and attractive. Although the seminar only discussed and listened to 4 presentations, all raised many important issues, requiring us to take note, research and improve.
Artist Tran Thi Thu Dong also shared about the discussion at the end of 2023, in which the Association asked the question: "How to create top-notch photographic works?" According to Ms. Dong, top-notch works are works with artistic and ideological value, reflecting the development of the country.
Regarding the content of the discussion, the President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists acknowledged opinions on the development direction of photography, the need for socialization to solve funding issues, and proposed the rejuvenation of members. She also emphasized the application of artificial intelligence in evaluating works. All these opinions will be received, studied and integrated into the Association's action plan in the coming time by the Executive Board of the Association.
Artist Tran Thi Thu Dong also shared information about introducing knowledge of photography art education in some developed countries, and suggested that the Association bring this idea to the Ministry of Education for research.
At the Seminar, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Dong also announced the plan to organize the Congress for the term on March 15, 2025.
