About 15 minutes after eating, some students felt nauseous, weak in the limbs, dizzy, had headaches, and had stomachaches. Afterwards, 55 students were taken to Xin Man District General Hospital for examination with a diagnosis of suspected food poisoning.

As of September 17, of the 55 students hospitalized, 29 showed signs of poisoning, 17 students were discharged from the hospital and continued to be monitored at school, while the rest suffered from digestive disorders.

Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department requested the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct the temporary suspension of operations of food suppliers suspected of causing food poisoning.

Organize investigation and trace the origin of food to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food for processing facilities suspected of causing poisoning; take food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause;

From there, detect and strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.

Organize drills and prepare plans for handling, overcoming consequences, first aid, transportation, and emergency care for patients as well as strengthen coordination between functional agencies when food safety incidents or food poisoning occur at organizations and businesses using collective kitchens.

Guide organizations and businesses with collective kitchens in the area to develop plans to prevent and handle food safety incidents and food poisoning, and organize their own drills for mass food poisoning situations at the facility.

90% of lung cancer patients are related to smoking

Having a history of smoking for 20 years, Mr. Pham Van Manh (68 years old, Hanoi) recently had a persistent cough. He took medicine but it did not go away. Mr. Manh went to the K Hospital for examination. After an X-ray showed a blurry spot in his lungs, the doctor ordered him to have a chest CT scan and discovered stage 2 lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the most common cancer, the most difficult to detect and the least effective treatment, causing the most deaths today. According to statistics from Globocan (International Agency for Research on Cancer) in 2022, Vietnam has a high rate of lung cancer, ranking 2nd in men with 17.8%, and 2nd in the country with 7.8% among common cancers.

According to the Ministry of Health, 90% of lung cancer patients are related to smoking. Cigarette smoke causes about 25 diseases, including many dangerous diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and affects reproductive health.

In addition to lung cancer, smoking causes 75% of cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 25% of cases of ischemic heart disease. In children, exposure to tobacco smoke increases the risk of respiratory infections, otitis media, asthma, and impaired lung function.

The results of many studies show that the risk of lung cancer in people who smoke is 10 times higher than that of non-smokers. The level of increased risk depends on the type of cancer cells.

Lung cancer is the most common cancer in men, with a mortality rate of about 20% of all cancers. According to statistics, lung cancer ranks second in new cases and is the leading cause of death.

In Vietnam alone in 2020, the incidence of lung cancer ranked second with more than 26,000 new cases and more than 23,000 deaths from this dangerous disease.

According to respiratory experts, people should proactively screen for lung cancer when they have one of the following unusual signs: frequent coughing, persistent coughing with phlegm, fatigue, shortness of breath, unexplained weight loss, etc. In particular, people with a history of smoking are recommended to have regular lung cancer screening after the age of 40.

When screening for lung cancer, people will usually be assigned one of the following tests and imaging techniques: Low-dose chest computed tomography, also known as low-dose chest CT scan;

Chest X-ray; Sputum cytology. In addition, to confirm the diagnosis and assess the level of local invasion or metastasis, the patient will undergo specialized techniques such as chest CT scan, PET/CT scan, bronchoscopy, bronchial ultrasound, endoscopic bronchial ultrasound, MRI (brain, chest), lung biopsy.
