The first time I went abroad was the summer before my senior year of high school. Being a fan of the famous Korean boy band BTS, I was extremely excited to go to Korea. I studied Korean and English at the same time to understand my idol's music and, more importantly, to acquire a foreign language. Right after finishing the basic Korean course, my whole family traveled to that beautiful country. It was a rare opportunity for me to apply what I had learned into practice. I was excited every time I said hello or thanked the Korean tour guide. At the restaurant, I confidently ordered and paid. At the market, I used my modest vocabulary to buy my favorite items.
The first "abroad" trip became the motivation for Ngoc Han to nurture her dream of going to many new lands in the future.
In my bewildered eyes, the familiar places in Korean movies appeared so impressive. Namsan Tower is famous for its love locks that attract many young locals and tourists. I put on a hanbok - traditional Korean costume, and took many beautiful photos at the palace. The place that was used as the main setting of the movie "Winter Sonata" - Nami Island is very romantic and charming, making me fascinated. I was absorbed in admiring the beautiful natural landscape with vast green patches. Red bean buns were my "savior" after tireless sightseeing. Returning to the mainland and reaching the central area, I felt the hustle and bustle of Korean urban life. The culinary culture here is also remarkable. I took the opportunity to enjoy a variety of snacks such as skewered fish cakes, spicy rice cakes, fried or steamed pork sausages... on the bustling Myeongdong street. Besides grilled chicken, beef or fish, ginseng chicken soup with nutritious ingredients is an ideal choice in the summer because of its cooling and cleansing properties. In my opinion, Korean taste is quite bland, and salt is used as a seasoning on the table. The weather is pleasant, I can walk all the time without getting too tired.
Ngoc Han actively captures many beautiful moments during her first "abroad" trip
Discovering new places and capturing beautiful moments… is an exciting experience. For me, my first long trip opened up many new and wonderful things. I know I need to work hard so that I can travel everywhere in the future, confidently explore the world and make life more meaningful.
