According to The Hollywood Reporter, Catherine Palter - Lew Palter's daughter - confirmed that he passed away at the age of 94. The actor spent his last moments with his family at his home in Los Angeles.

Lew Palter's real name is Leon Louis Palter, born November 3, 1928. He acted in and directed several plays before joining the Millbrook Playhouse in Pennsylvania, in the mid-1960s.

Lew made his screen debut in Run for Your Life (1967). He later appeared in many other projects such as It Takes a Thief, The Virginian, Gunsmoke and Mission: Impossible...

In Titanic (1997), Palter played Isidor, the husband of Lady Ida. He made a strong impression in the scene where he hugged his wife lying on the bed, before the sea flooded in and sank the Titanic. In fact, the couple recreated the touching love story of the real couple Ida Straus and Isidor Straus. This is also the most famous role in Lew Palter's career.

In addition to acting, he was also a respected instructor at the CalArts School of Theatre. Lew Palter retired in 2013, but continues to conduct workshops and teach across the country and around the world, including at Edinburgh, Carnegie Mellon, and UCLA.

“Lew loved acting and inspired generations of students. He instilled curiosity, interest, intelligence, and humor in every scene, play, and class,” said CalArts School of Theatre Dean Travis Preston.

“He was incredibly respectful of his students and encouraged everyone to find their essence in their work and life,” Dean added.
