According to Thai media (host of Group A) on October 5, the Turkmenistan futsal team has officially withdrawn from the Asian qualifying campaign. This forced the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to adjust the schedule of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2024 qualifying round in the group stage taking place in Bangkok.
Group A initially included host Thailand, Turkmenistan, China and Hong Kong (China).
Turkmenistan withdraws from 2024 Asian Futsal qualifiers
In this group, Thailand's matches are only considered friendly matches and do not affect the qualifying results because this country is the host of the final round. Therefore, Turkmenistan's withdrawal has made the group only a competition between China and Hong Kong for the only group winner (not counting the second place) with a two-legged format.
This unintentionally helps Vietnam and other teams breathe easier when the remaining 7 groups will definitely have two places in the final round (first and second in each group) instead of only taking 7/8 second-place teams with the best results as originally.
Before today's training session, the Vietnamese futsal team visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Mongolia.
Also today (October 5), the Vietnamese futsal team continued to practice at the Futsal Gymnasium of the Mongolian Football Federation. Coach Diego Giustozzi spent a lot of time on training tactics, especially the ability to switch from attack to defense and vice versa.
Tomorrow (October 6), the team will have a practice session to get acquainted with the official stadium - Buyant Ukhaa and finalize the official list of 14 players for the opening match against host Mongolia at 1:00 p.m. on October 7.
The 2024 AFC Futsal Championship Qualifiers are an important tournament that kicks off Vietnam's campaign to qualify for the 2024 World Cup. This year's tournament is the first time there is only one qualifying round instead of being divided into 4 regions.
