Last night, the world gold price dropped to 2,865 USD/ounce. However, due to the continued increase in demand for capital shelter, many people increased their purchasing power at this price. The gold price today at 6:00 am on February 13 jumped sharply to 2,905 USD/ounce.
World gold prices fell sharply at times when inflation data in the US heated up. Specifically, the consumer price index (CPI) in January 2025 increased by 0.5%, higher than the forecast increase of 0.3%.
This information has reinforced the message of the US Federal Reserve (FED) that it is not in a hurry to cut interest rates due to the unstable economy.
"Higher-than-expected US CPI weighed on gold prices and market expectations for any rate cuts were largely dashed," said David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures.
However, Mr. Daniel Pavilonis - senior analyst at RJO Futures, said that although gold had a small sell-off, due to concerns about inflation and geopolitical situations, people still want to invest in gold.
The recovery of world gold prices from lows in the past two days shows that investors continue to favor having a safe asset to fight inflationary pressures.
In Vietnam, at the end of February 12, the selling price of SJC gold was 90.2 million VND/tael. The price of gold rings was 89.7 million VND/tael.
