With many mechanisms, policies and drastic measures issued by Quang Ninh province to preserve and promote the value of the Heritage over the past 30 years, Ha Long Bay has now had a new look, its outstanding global values are preserved intact, attracting tens of millions of visitors.
Ha Long Bay is a World Natural Heritage Site first recognized by UNESCO in 1994 for its natural landscape value and expanded its geological and geomorphological criteria in 2000; in 2009, it was ranked as a special national monument by the Prime Minister of Vietnam and in 2011, Ha Long Bay became one of the 7 new natural wonders of the world.

In 2023, the World Heritage Committee approved the expansion of the world heritage boundary of Ha Long Bay to include Cat Ba Archipelago of Hai Phong city; in 2024, Ha Long Bay was awarded a certificate of recognition for the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago Geological Heritage by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).
Along with that, Ha Long Bay is also continuously voted by many international organizations and forums to be in the list of impressive tourist destinations in the world, such as 1 of the 50 most beautiful natural wonders in the world, 1 of the 8 places with the most special waters in the world, one of the 10 most impressive UNESCO Heritages in Asia, one of the 10 most ideal tourist attractions in Southeast Asia...
To preserve and promote the values of the Heritage, in 1995, Quang Ninh province established the Ha Long Bay Management Board, and issued many specialized resolutions, mechanisms, policies and regulations on the management, conservation and promotion of heritage values; focusing on environmental protection, biodiversity, research and application of science and technology in heritage management, management of tourism business environment and development of tourism products...
In particular, many drastic solutions have been implemented synchronously such as: Prohibiting fishing in the absolute protection zone; Ending cargo loading and unloading activities in Ha Long Bay; Relocating polluting facilities out of the heritage buffer zone; establishing nature reserves and special-use forests (to strictly protect ecosystems)... Along with that, there is investment in renovating, in a synchronous and modern direction, the infrastructure system such as the international standard passenger port system; outstanding architectural works...

On December 14, at the 30th Anniversary Ceremony of Ha Long Bay being recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage (1994-2024), Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, spoke, emphasizing: After 30 years of being honored, Ha Long Bay now has a new look, the outstanding global values of the heritage are preserved intact; the potential strengths are promoted; the apparatus, mechanisms and policies in the management and protection of the heritage are gradually consolidated and improved, creating a solid foundation for the strategy to preserve and promote the values of Ha Long Bay in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
Ha Long Bay is increasingly becoming an attractive destination, attracting domestic and international tourists; truly becoming a famous tourism brand of Quang Ninh, Vietnam and the world. Over the past 30 years, there have been about 57 million visitors to the bay, bringing in revenue of over thousands of billions of VND, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.

Ha Long Bay is the first natural heritage in Vietnam recognized by UNESCO, with 2 criteria to be honored as a World Natural Heritage (including: criterion VII on aesthetic landscape and criterion VIII on geology and geomorphology); 3 cultures on Ha Long Bay (including: Soi Nhu culture, Cai Beo culture and Ha Long culture); 4 outstanding global and typical values of Ha Long Bay (including: aesthetics, geology and geomorphology, biodiversity and cultural history).
Ha Long Bay has 5 clusters of overnight accommodation; 7 archaeological sites that have been researched and discovered; 8 tourist itineraries; 15 endemic plant species; 33 landscapes and points that are being exploited and serving visitors; 42 pines; 69 caves (discovered); 81 ang and 193 sandbanks on Ha Long Bay. The bay has an area of 1,553 km2, including 1,969 large and small islands with 3,000 species of flora and fauna on Ha Long Bay.
Over the past 30 years, Ha Long Bay has attracted 56.87 million visitors, including 30.74 million international visitors; revenue (from Ha Long Bay entrance fees) reached 4,211 billion VND.
