(Dan Tri) - "Creating something new is creativity. But can that creativity be commercialized, accepted by others to generate revenue, that is the entrepreneurial mindset."

The above is the sharing of Prof. Dr. Le Quan, Director of Hanoi National University, at the launching ceremony of "Innovation and Startup Incubator, Hanoi National University", on December 18.

According to Professor Le Quan, startups can start from the smallest things, but they are cells for replication. When conditions and environments are met, they will create value and increase rapidly.

When talking about startups, we are talking about added value. Startups are associated with innovation, knowledge, science and technology, because only innovation and creativity can create added value.

According to the Director of Hanoi National University, we can research many things, but whether we can sell them and commercialize them is what is important.

"Creating something new is creativity. But can that creativity be commercialized, accepted by others to generate revenue? That is the entrepreneurial mindset.

The entrepreneurial mindset is that whatever you do needs to be effective, only then will you survive. There are scientists I have met for decades, 15 years now who are still struggling with their research.

They research many good things, but those good things cannot be sold, that is very difficult," said Professor Le Quan.

The director of Hanoi National University (VNU) said that making an airplane is not too difficult, but putting it into business is difficult. It is possible to extract a vitamin, but whether it can compete and sell in the market is important.

With the same product, the way to approach the market is extremely important. Therefore, scientists must choose a product that is closer to businesses and closer to the market. To do so, scientists must contact businesses and the market.

"Hanoi National University will invest, screen and provide financial and legal support for successful startup projects.

We have spent quite a lot of resources on applied research but after the research, who will commercialize and how?

For example, last year there were topics that cost billions of dong but the teachers could not answer the question "what is the purpose of the research"?

Scientists just do research and then leave it there, which is a waste of both effort and budget. Therefore, we need to connect, starting with placing orders with businesses before doing research," Professor Le Quan affirmed.
