In recent days, images of a young man using a hanging handrail and an iron bar along the ceiling of a metro train to perform exercises, pull-ups, etc., causing the handrail to be damaged, have been posted on social media, making many people angry.
Accordingly, this young man was hanging his whole body on the iron bars and handrails to exercise, while many passengers were sitting below. A handrail on metro line 1 was later broken and damaged.
According to information from Urban Railway Company No. 1 (the metro operator), this is not the first time the young man has done this. Previously, the young man had performed similar actions many times on trains No. 1401, from Ben Thanh Station to Suoi Tien Bus Station and train No. 1602, from Suoi Tien Bus Station to Ben Thanh Station.
"This action upsets surrounding passengers because the train compartment is a public space, the handrails are installed to help passengers keep their balance while the train is running, not for exercise or performance," said a representative of Urban Railway Company No. 1.
The handrail on the metro was broken after a young man used it to swing on a pull-up bar.
According to Urban Railway Company No. 1, based on the regulations of the Government and the City People's Committee on administrative sanctions in the field of security, order and social safety, at the same time, to increase deterrence against those who cause public disorder on urban railway trains, create and maintain a good image of a civilized public transport, promptly handle improper behaviors when traveling by urban railway trains, Urban Railway Company No. 1 requests the City Police to direct relevant units to verify, invite this subject to work and handle.
Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien officially started commercial operation from December 22, 2024. In the first month, the metro line offered free tickets for all passengers. Recently, from January 21, 2025, metro line 1 started selling tickets.
In more than one month of operation, the metro line has welcomed 1.76 million passengers, an average of 109,915 passengers/day, 2.8 times higher than the forecast output.
During the upcoming Lunar New Year, the metro line will increase its daily operating hours to accommodate people traveling during the spring festival. From January 24 to 28 (25 to 29 of the Lunar New Year), the train will run from 5am to 11pm, one hour longer than usual.
In particular, on New Year's Eve, January 29 (the first day of the Lunar New Year), in addition to the schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., the metro will run from 0:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. to serve people and tourists who want to have fun and watch fireworks. From January 30 to February 2 (the second to fifth day of the Lunar New Year), the train will run from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
