The colorful traditional costumes and the performances brought to the contest for the first time created an attractive artistic atmosphere.

On August 2-3, at the Quang Ngai Provincial Labor Culture House, there was a culinary competition and traditional ritual performance; folk song, folk dance, traditional musical instrument and traditional costume performance. The most impressive were the works, musical pieces, performances and traditional costumes of the Ha Nhi ethnic group in Dien Bien province. The competition involved both playing the flute and performing acrobatics on stage, which everyone enjoyed. The most unique was the flute playing with the nose by a female artist of the Ha Nhi ethnic group in Dien Bien province.

Watching this performance, the audience and the delegations participating in the contest were all excited. Ms. Quàng Thị Tích, a nose flute artist, shared: “My sister learned to play the nose flute first, then taught me. Now I am preparing to teach my students, I need students to follow me so that I don’t lose the uniqueness of my ethnic group. When I get old and weak, there will be people performing like me. I am very happy and honored to participate in the folk culture performance competition of ethnic groups in the provinces. This is the first time in my life that I have come to Quang Ngai province.”

The performances of each ethnic group from the northern mountainous provinces of Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien with traditional musical instruments are the Khen dance and flute performance. The performances of the ethnic groups in the central region are singing Bai Choi, gongs and up to the great Central Highlands are the sounds of many musical instruments of the Ede people such as gongs, T'rung. The performances of the southern provinces such as Dong Thap are the singing melodies...

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, an audience member, commented: “This contest allows me to interact with many ethnic groups, understand their customs and traditions, and all their national identities, from costumes to cuisine and dances. Watching this, I find it very artistic.”

At this ethnic cultural folk performance competition, the Dak Lak delegation brought the identities of the Ede people. These were the traditional Ede costume competition; the traditional ritual of the New Rice Ceremony of the Ede people, along with performances of the Arap gong, xoang dance or the solo singing of the song “Ru em, mua suot lua” by Meritorious Artist Y Phon K'Sor.

Talking about the contest, Nghe H Nung Mlo, Dak Lak delegation said: “Each region, each province has its own identity. Today, Dak Lak brings the echoes of mountain gongs along with folk dances and lullabies, imbued with nature, love of family, love of culture. This program, the whole team is very excited, happy, enthusiastic to learn and experience with other provinces about culture and new things of other provinces”.

This year’s Ethnic Culture and Folk Performance Competition featured many intangible cultural heritages. These include the performances of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs by Lien Anh and Lien Chi, and gong performances by ethnic minorities in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: “The performances of the art troupes have been carefully prepared and the performances such as ritual performances, costumes performances as well as folk songs and dance performances, the troupes gathered and selected very special performances to perform for the people of Quang Ngai province as well as tourists to watch. And also hope that this is an opportunity to promote the intangible cultural values of regions and ethnic groups. Through this competition, we can restore traditional rituals and traditional costumes”.
