In the 4th round of the AFC Champions League group stage, Wuhan Three Towns suffered a 1-2 defeat against Hanoi FC at My Dinh Stadium. In that match, the Chinese team also left an ugly image when Wei Shihao had an unsportsmanlike situation. This striker kicked Xuan Manh in the face during a dispute.

The referee immediately showed Wei Shihao a red card without consulting VAR. Afterwards, this striker was condemned by Chinese fans, demanding to be expelled from the national team for his ugly behavior.
As of today (November 26), Wei Shihao has received a heavy penalty from the AFC. After reviewing the situation, the highest authority of Asian football has decided to suspend Wei Shihao for 3 matches and fine him 1000 USD (24.2 million VND).
This means the Wuhan Three Towns star will miss the remaining two Group J matches against Urawa Red Diamonds and Pohang Steelers. If the home team advances, Wei Shihao will be suspended for one match in the knockout round. Otherwise, the 1995-born player's suspension will be retained for the next AFC Champions League participation.
This is the third severe punishment Wei Shihao has received this year for his unprofessional behavior. In July, the player was suspended for six matches by the Chinese Football Association for insulting a referee. After returning, Wei Shihao was again punished for his unsportsmanlike conduct on the field.

Notably, Wei Shihao still started in the two matches of the Chinese team in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Thailand and South Korea. However, the Wuhan Three Towns striker did not leave any mark.
After 4 matches in the AFC Champions League, Wuhan Three Towns has 4 points and ranks 3rd in Group J, 1 point ahead of Hanoi FC. Both teams still hope to compete for 2nd place in the group with Urawa Red Diamonds (4 points). Meanwhile, Pohang Steelers have won the right to continue with the top position in the group with 12 points.
