Careless skincare is like torturing your skin!
The weather is about to enter the hottest season of the year and along with that heat, many people also change their skincare habits to the direction of... simplicity to the point of being overly minimalistic. Many people think: "I've been taking care of my skin all year round, now that it's hot, I have to let my skin 'breathe'." As a result, they skip moisturizer, limit sunscreen application for fear of clogging the skin, just wash their face quickly and let their skin "balance itself".
It sounds logical, but in reality, this does not help the skin to be healthier, but only makes the skin produce more oil, easily dehydrates and damages faster. If you also have this mindset, it is time to think again!
Minimalism doesn't mean sloppy
Minimalist skincare (also known as skinimalism) is not inherently wrong. But the problem lies in the fact that many people misunderstand minimalism in beauty. Minimalism does not mean just washing your face and skipping moisturizing or sunscreen. A simple but effective skincare routine should have at least 3 basic steps: cleansing, moisturizing and sunscreen. If you omit just one of these elements, your skin will soon speak up by becoming oily, dry or constantly breaking out.
Oily skin still needs moisture, that's an immutable rule.
One of the most common misconceptions is that oily skin does not need moisturizing. In hot weather, the skin produces more oil, but that does not mean it does not need moisturizing. The truth is, when the skin lacks water, the sebaceous glands will have to work harder to compensate, making the skin even more oily. Therefore, if you only focus on controlling oil without moisturizing, the skin will fall into a vicious cycle: the more you control oil, the more oil your skin produces.
Instead of skipping the moisturizing step, choose products with a light texture like gel or lotion to provide enough moisture without making the skin feel stuffy. Ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Glycerin, Niacinamide or Squalane will help the skin maintain the necessary moisture without making the face feel heavy.
Never skip the sun protection step.
Hot weather makes many people afraid to apply sunscreen because they are afraid of their skin being stuffy. But in fact, not using sunscreen is the reason why the skin ages quickly, loses water and produces more oil. The ideal choice in hot weather is gel, milk or essence sunscreen, which can be absorbed quickly without causing stickiness. In addition, make sure you reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours if you have to be outdoors a lot.
In short, summer skin also needs adequate and reasonable care, not just leaving the skin airy is good. No matter how hot the weather is, the skin still needs to be cleaned and moisturized, especially for oily skin. If you keep cutting back on steps because you are afraid of clogging your skin, you are only damaging your skin faster.
