
Realizing the potential and economic benefits that traditional ethnic culture brings, many establishments and tourism businesses in the province have exploited the advantages of the locality, enriching themselves and the society. They have created a colorful space of ethnic culture to introduce to friends inside and outside the province and international visitors. Traditional art forms of ethnic minorities, especially the Thai ethnic group, have been introduced to serve in tourist areas and spots such as: Traditional dance, singing, xoè dance, bamboo pole dance, throwing con... The culinary quintessence of the Thai people has also been enhanced with special dishes such as: Sticky rice, grilled fish (pa pỉnh tộp); grilled skewers; laap; smoked meat... to serve tourists.
Implementing the policy of linking tourism development with preserving ethnic cultures, Dien Bien has focused on promoting the preservation of the status quo or restoring landscapes, architecture, caves, traditional costumes, etc. to create a cultural space imbued with identity, attracting tourists from near and far.
In recent years, the Dien Bien Department of Culture has been promoting the collection, restoration, preservation and maintenance of tangible and intangible culture, unique customs and practices of ethnic groups such as language, writing, folk songs, folk dances, musical instruments, traditional costumes, festivals, etc. Thereby further enhancing the attraction of Dien Bien tourism to visitors on the basis of promoting the traditional cultural features of ethnic communities in the province.
Along with exploiting cultural tourism products, cultural preservation is also very necessary and is highly valued by the province. Despite many difficulties, in recent times, Dien Bien has prioritized the implementation of many cultural preservation projects in ethnic minority areas. Typical projects include: Investigation, research, and preservation of Thai ethnic traditions (Black Thai branch) in Che Can village, Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien Phu city; "Rain praying" festival of the Kho Mu ethnic group, "New rice celebration" festival of the Xinh Mun ethnic group, Chieng So commune, Dien Bien Dong district; "Gà ma thu" festival of the Ha Nhi ethnic group, Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district... Many other activities have also been implemented such as: training for cultural cadres in particularly difficult communes; Coordinate the development of grassroots culture, provide equipment and means of operation for especially disadvantaged communes, villages and hamlets; support training facilities for mobile film projection teams serving ethnic minorities and mountainous areas; develop mass cultural movements...
To do a good job of preserving historical relics and promoting traditional cultural values, in addition to solutions on mechanisms and policies, Dien Bien province needs to allocate more funds to support artisans in preserving and teaching ethnic culture to the next generation. On the one hand, it is necessary to properly resolve the relationship between preserving and promoting traditional cultural values in accordance with the goals of socio-economic development; to build a team of cultural cadres with capacity and understanding of folk songs, folk music, and folk dance. Along with that, it is necessary to have more active participation from the entire political system, the whole society and the residential communities...
It can be affirmed that thanks to the system of special national relics of Dien Bien Phu Battlefield, together with the majestic natural landscape, the unique and diverse traditional cultural beauty of 19 ethnic groups, Dien Bien has created its own attractive beauty, making Dien Bien an attractive historical - cultural - tourist destination domestically and internationally.
