Thanks to persistent propaganda work and active advocacy of the Hanoi Forest Protection Department, Forest Protection Department No. 5, along with the consent of the owners, three bears were voluntarily transferred and rescued by Animals Asia to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien - Hue.

The handover process took place smoothly with the close coordination of functional agencies, local authorities of Phung Thuong commune, Phuc Tho district and chaired by the Hanoi Forest Protection Department. The three bears were named Hoa (Bloom), Loc (Bud) and Mam (Sprout), representing strong vitality and a good start in 2025. These bears have legal origins and have been kept in captivity for many years before the owner decided to transfer them for humanitarian purposes.

The rescue team lured the bears into the cages by using honey, condensed milk, ripe bananas and dried fruits - the bears' favourite foods. The cages were then loaded onto trucks for transport to Bach Ma National Park, Hue. The three bears were carefully cared for by the rescue team, ensuring their safety throughout the nearly 800 km journey. The male bears were fed nutritious food and every 2-3 hours their health was checked and they were given water. It is expected that on the afternoon of April 3, 2025, the three bears will arrive at the Center in Bach Ma.

The Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Bach Ma is a new, modern facility that meets international standards and is sponsored and operated by Animals Asia. There are 11 moon bears raised in a semi-wild model. The center has completed phase 1 with a hospital system, quarantine area and four semi-natural areas, ready to receive more rescued bears. Here, the bears are cared for to recover their health, are free to move and search for food to gradually restore their natural instincts. Of the bears rescued to the Rescue Center in Bach Ma, the Hanoi Forest Protection Department has handed over 10 bears.

Due to the shrinking of habitats, the gradual disappearance of forests and the hunting of wild bears into bear farms for bile extraction, the number of bears in the wild is estimated to be only a few hundred individuals. According to the latest figures from the Vietnam Forest Protection Department, there are only about 300 bears being held in bear farms nationwide. According to the Hanoi Forest Protection Department, there are currently nearly 90 bears in Phung Thuong commune, Phuc Tho district. Animals Asia is committed to continuing to work closely with authorities to promote the end of this situation, while raising public awareness about bear and wildlife conservation.
Animals Asia, founded by Dr Jill Robinson MBE, began rescuing bears in Vietnam in 2007 and brought rescued bears to live at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Province. To date, the organization has rescued 285 sun bears and moon bears. With the slogan #NoBearLeftBehind - "No Bear Left Behind", the organization is launching a global fundraising campaign to completely end bear captivity.
