Affirming the position of coconut trees

Chairman of the Provincial Coconut Association Tran Anh Tuan said: In 2024, the province will continue to implement many practical tasks to affirm the position of coconut trees - the province's main crop. Implementing the value chain of key agricultural products, including: 34 industrial coconut cooperatives, 20 cooperative groups, with a scale of more than 13,089 hectares and 6,216 members; in 2024, the total output of coconuts purchased by enterprises was over 105 million fruits. The drinking coconut chain has 2 cooperatives, 119 growing areas, with a scale of more than 8,373 hectares and 12,829 members; in 2024, the total output of coconuts purchased by enterprises was over 4 million fruits.

By 2024, farmers growing and caring for coconuts in an organic manner in association with enterprises will increase by more than 2,256 hectares, bringing the total organic coconut area in the province to more than 20,781 hectares. Of which, more than 16,535 hectares will be certified.

The relevant sector has piloted the construction of 6 concentrated coconut production areas, with an area of ​​over 2,202 hectares, including: 5 production areas according to organic standards, with an area of ​​over 2,162 hectares. 1 drinking coconut production area, with an area of ​​40 hectares. The provincial agricultural sector has coordinated with the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development to develop and disseminate organic farming processes, issue documents guiding the establishment and management of growing area codes and export packaging facilities. In 2024, 133 growing area codes were granted for over 8,391 hectares; 14 enterprises were granted export packaging codes for fresh coconuts exported to the Chinese market. In addition, the agricultural sector also received the coconut tissue culture technical process of Ho Chi Minh City International University to produce coconut seedlings. In 2024, the industrial promotion fund will support 11 projects to innovate and upgrade equipment, with a total budget of VND 2,659 billion.

Looking back at business activities in 2024, Chairman of the Provincial Business Association Tran Van Duc said: In early 2024, export production enterprises in the province in general and coconut industry enterprises in particular faced many difficulties and lacked orders. By the last months of 2024, production and business activities of many enterprises had positive changes, maintaining a good growth rate, the consumption market gradually recovered and expanded.

With the increasing demands of consumers, the strict standards of the import market require enterprises to constantly improve product quality, enhance responsibility in the production and trading of clean food and safe food. Thereby, enhancing the position of products in the domestic and world markets. In 2024, the province has 9 enterprises achieving the certificate of high-quality Vietnamese goods in 2023; of which, there are 8 coconut enterprises, including: Minh Chau Facility, Thanh Long Facility, Thanh Binh Food and Beverage Production and Trading Company Limited, Ben Tre Coconut Investment Joint Stock Company (Beinco), Vinh Tien Company Limited, Ben Tre Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Betrimex), Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Company Limited, Thanh Binh Food and Beverage Joint Stock Company.

The leading companies in the coconut industry with the mentioned development are: Vietcoco brand - coconut brand from manufacturer Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Company Limited has been in the Top 500 largest private enterprises in Vietnam for 3 consecutive years. This is the third time Vietcoco has participated in the survey. And with this award, Vietcoco has increased its ranking from position 374 (in 2022) to position 365 (in 2024).

Ben Tre Coconut Investment Joint Stock Company (Beinco) maintains quality certifications according to national and international standards. The company's products are available at Co.op Finelife, Satra, Mega Market supermarkets and are preparing to be on Aeon shelves, continuing to be offered at supermarket chains nationwide.

The company has invested heavily in factories and technology that meet international standards. Speaking at the conference summarizing the activities of 2024 and deploying the tasks of 2025 of the Provincial Coconut Association, Chairman of the Provincial Business Association Tran Van Duc said that recently, the price of raw dry coconut has continuously increased, approaching the "golden" price of coconuts in the past. Currently, many coconut processing enterprises have received many orders. The issue that enterprises are concerned about is the source of coconut raw materials. More than ever, enterprises and coconut growers must tighten their connection, share benefits and share responsibilities. Farmers must grow coconuts in an organic direction to provide clean raw materials for processing enterprises. Processing enterprises must purchase organically grown raw coconuts at reasonable prices and have accompanying sharing policies, diversify and improve the quality of processed coconut products through access to advanced technology equipment. Thereby, contributing to improving the income and life of coconut growers and enhancing the coconut value chain of the province.

The Provincial Coconut Association has just held a conference to summarize activities in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025. Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Pham Huu Du, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Huynh Quang Duc, representatives of coconut enterprises and coconut farmers attended.

In 2024, the Provincial Coconut Association has proactively researched and implemented well the directions of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee. In 2025, the Provincial Coconut Association focuses on providing information related to the development of the coconut industry for businesses, participating in the program "Dong Khoi to start a business and develop businesses"; plan to develop 5,000 hectares of new businesses and build 100 leading businesses in the province...
