Technology industries, especially artificial intelligence and semiconductor industries, are now considered core sectors in many countries, helping to enhance global competitiveness. In Vietnam, the semiconductor industry and core digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, etc. are being strongly developed by the Government. Many leading technology corporations in the world have plans to develop research centers, expand investment, business, and production in Vietnam.
What advantages does this bring to Vietnam and universities - the place that trains human resources for the country? What are the current human resource needs and learners' needs for technology industries? Given that trend, should candidates rush to register to study artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology... or should they only pursue it if they are truly passionate and have certain qualities?
These issues will be discussed in part 3 of the online TV consultation program "Choosing a future major: Information technology and technology industries".
Experts attending the program consultation at Thanh Nien Newspaper this afternoon
The program takes place from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm, including experts:
- Dr. Le Viet Tuan , Head of Artificial Intelligence Department, Faculty of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City Open University;
- Dr. Nguyen Van Kha , Deputy Director of Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade;

Focus on promoting AI and semiconductor industries
Dr. Le Viet Tuan, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department, Faculty of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, commented: "The investment of the world's leading technology corporations in Vietnam is both an opportunity and a challenge, a test for us. Hopefully we will seize this opportunity well." This year, Ho Chi Minh City Open University will enroll 5,300 students, 34 standard programs and 17 high-quality programs. The school applies flexible admission methods, in which the admission method is according to the general plan of the Ministry of Education and Training and according to the school's own project.
Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that this can be said to be a time of technology explosion. Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade focuses on investing heavily in this field, including preparing the foundation for opening these training majors in the coming time. In 2025, the school plans to open 3 more training majors, bringing the total number of training programs to 37. The new majors include: law, tourism and materials technology. In addition to the 4 old methods (reviewing academic records, direct admission, scores of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam, and considering scores of the high school graduation exam); the school also coordinates with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education to organize a specialized competency assessment exam for admission. Notably, the school plans to reduce 50% of tuition fees for engineering technology majors for students.

Faced with this trend, many candidates are wondering whether they should rush to register to study artificial intelligence, semiconductors... or should they only pursue it if they are truly passionate and have certain qualities?
According to Master Duong Thanh Phet, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the information technology (IT) sector has been a "hot" sector in recent years. In 2022, with the wave of AI, specifically ChatGPT, IT human resources are more necessary than ever. In particular, with the trend of AI, occupations revolving around AI applications have become very attractive to many candidates. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has 5 training majors. Specifically, including IT (5 majors, of which 1 major is a branch of AI). In addition, the school also has other majors: information security, data science, computer science. Especially from 2024, the school will open an additional AI major. With the current trend, the recruitment needs of businesses are very high, the school has cooperative relationships with more than 200 corporations and companies. Recently in their recruitment strategy, they always require that even software engineers need to have knowledge of AI. Therefore, candidates should try to learn, if it suits their interests and strengths, then apply for AI or other fields that apply AI.
