What's special about the 2025 Southern Traditional Cake Festival?

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, this year's festival brings together about 230 booths, divided into many attractive areas such as folk cake space, regional specialty space, culinary space and flower and ornamental plant display space.

In particular, a series of outstanding events will take place, bringing visitors unique experiences. Notably, there will be a bonsai competition, a folk cake competition, a space for promoting giant lobster pancakes, and a demonstration and display of the largest banh chung in the Mekong Delta.

In addition, visitors also have the opportunity to directly experience the process of making traditional Southern cakes with artisans, enjoy special art programs, enjoy the grand opening and closing performances, as well as participate in the traditional cake offering ceremony on the Hung Kings' death anniversary.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, the festival not only contributes to preserving and promoting traditional culinary values ​​but also honors the creativity of artisans. The event also creates opportunities for trade connections between artisans and domestic and foreign businesses, promoting tourism development and cultural exchange between regions.

In particular, this year, the Organizing Committee supports a 25% discount on booth rental fees, helping artisans and participating units have more conditions to be creative, bringing many new types of cakes, contributing to enhancing the cultural value of the festival.

The organizers also emphasized the work of ensuring security, order, environmental sanitation, and food safety to create a good impression on domestic and foreign tourists.

The highlight of this year's festival is the performance and enjoyment of a giant banh xeo with a circumference of 9 meters, a diameter of 3 meters, and the filling includes 100 lobsters from Nha Trang city.

In addition, the Can Tho Professional Chefs Association will demonstrate wrapping and cooking the largest banh chung in the Mekong Delta, measuring 1.9 meters x 1.9 meters, 0.8 meters thick, weighing more than 300kg, prepared by 20 artisans.

With hundreds of unique Southern Vietnamese traditional cakes and impressive performances, the 2025 Southern Vietnamese Traditional Cake Festival promises to bring visitors unforgettable experiences, contributing to honoring the quintessence of Vietnamese cuisine.
