Digital transformation in education is not simply about technological innovation.

(Dan Tri) - "Digital transformation in education is not simply about technological innovation but also about empowering teachers and developing the necessary skills for teachers and learners in a rapidly changing world."

The above is the sharing of Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, at the scientific conference "Education in the digital world", co-organized by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences on December 6 in Hanoi.

The conference publishes outstanding research, updates new trends, and creates a prestigious forum for educational managers, experts, lecturers and teachers to discuss the opportunities and challenges of education.

According to Professor Le Anh Vinh, when exploring the potential of education in the digital world, we need to approach it from the perspective of technology as a means, a bridge, not a barrier to education for everyone.

This expert believes that digital transformation in education does not lie in mere technological innovation, but in strategies to eliminate digital inequality, enhance capacity, empower teachers, and develop necessary skills for teachers and learners in a rapidly changing world.

Sharing at the workshop, Ms. Tara O'Connell, Head of Education Program, Unicef Vietnam, affirmed that this unit is committed to accompanying the Ministry of Education and Training in strategic planning, supporting the implementation of the digital transformation program in education, focusing on supporting digital learning solutions and digital technology-based innovations.

In particular, UNICEF also focuses on digital accessibility for vulnerable communities; developing and promoting the use of child-friendly digital tools for managers and teachers; and strengthening digital capacity for children and adolescents.

Emphasizing the importance of "equity, inclusion and sustainability in the digital transformation process in education", Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, said that UNESCO focuses on integrating technology and AI into education with the criteria of "applying technology and AI with human-centered education".

A meaningful highlight at the conference was research and innovative solutions to support students with special educational needs to promote equal learning opportunities.

The solutions not only apply technology but also aim for a quality, developed and integrated education for students with disabilities and students with special educational needs.

Ms. Kim Narae, Deputy Country Director, Koica Vietnam, shared that digital technology plays an important role in education, not just supporting learning.

“The examples shared here today will serve as a valuable source of inspiration, helping children and young people with disabilities overcome learning limitations, develop their potential and make meaningful contributions to society.

In particular, innovative approaches using artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology are opening up new horizons in education for people with disabilities," said Ms. Kim Narae.

The explosion of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) has had a profound impact on all fields, especially education.

Vietnam is actively implementing the national digital transformation program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, identifying education and training as a priority area.

In the 2023 Jobs Outlook report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), technology and digitalization are both drivers of job creation and significant disruption in the labor market.

Over the next five years, nearly a quarter of global employment will change, with 69 million new jobs likely to be created and 83 million jobs lost.

This poses a major challenge to the global education system, forcing administrators and experts to reshape national education strategies, as well as teaching and learning methods in schools to create a generation of learners ready for the digital future.
