Present at Co Ba stream, Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district at this time, along the stream bank looked devastated, under the riverbed there were many concrete blocks, people's fences collapsed and lying around, many tree roots of all kinds were washed away.

Mr. Luong Manh Tien in Dong Phau village, Chau Binh commune, was still in shock, his face was blank as he pointed to the stream and said that after the flood receded, the outbuildings including the pigsty and toilet were now located in the middle of Co Ba stream, and now the landslide was even close to his house. With heavy rains and rising water in the stream, he feared that his house would be swept away into the stream again.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hiep - Head of Dong Phau village, Chau Binh commune shared: The flood caused the Co Ba stream to overflow and inundate the village, causing serious landslides on the stream banks. In addition to Mr. Luong Manh Tien's household whose outbuildings were swept down the stream, 6-7 other households also lost their residential land.

Mr. Le Van Toan - Chairman of Chau Binh Commune People's Committee said: Co Ba stream originates from Thung Khang area and flows into Hieu river, passing through the commune for more than 10 km. The flood caused serious landslides on both sides of the river, with a length of nearly 1 km. The villages that were heavily affected such as Dong Phau, Ke Mong... had about 30 households losing their residential land, over 12 hectares of agricultural land were swept away into the stream. Not to mention hundreds of meters of water pipes of irrigation works were damaged by landslides...

The dangerous thing is that the land along the banks of Co Ba stream is currently "full" of water. If it rains soon, the water will rise and there will be more landslides. Currently, the commune is calculating the damage caused by the flood, especially checking the households living along the banks of Co Ba stream to have a plan when it rains heavily and the water rises, requiring households to evacuate to a safe place.

The erosion of Co Ba stream bank cannot be remedied yet due to limited commune budget, while the erosion of the stream bank is too large. The commune will submit a report to the competent authority to request a solution, remedy, and stabilize the lives of the people.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Quy Chau district, the rising flood water, in addition to causing landslides on the banks of Co Ba stream, along the Hieu river passing through the communes of Chau Hoi, Chau Tien, Chau Thang, Chau Tien, there were also more than 10 landslides on the riverbank with over 70 households affected, concentrated in the communes of Chau Tien, Chau Hanh, Chau Hoi, Chau Binh...

Mr. Le Hai Ly - Vice Chairman of Quy Chau District People's Committee added: Currently, the district is focusing on temporarily repairing to clear the main traffic routes, but cannot yet repair the landslides on the banks of Co Ba stream in Chau Binh, and other landslides on Hieu river, due to the large amount of landslides, and some locations where the water has not yet completely receded. The district is directing communes to mobilize local forces to help households in landslide areas, river banks, and streams repair their houses, and temporarily relocate households with severely damaged houses to safe locations.

In the long term, Quy Chau district needs the attention of the State to continue supporting landslide embankments at weak points on the banks of Hieu River and Co Ba stream, ensuring safety for people during the flood season.

Since 2020, with support from the State and combined with other capital sources, Quy Chau district has implemented the construction of a 5.7 km long embankment to prevent landslides on the Hieu river bank, passing through Tan Lac town and Chau Hanh commune. However, there are still many landslide and weak points that have not been implemented due to funding difficulties./.
