President suggests Japanese provinces increase acceptance of Vietnamese workers

President Vo Van Thuong suggested that Fukuoka province and some localities in the Kyushu region increase the reception of Vietnamese workers and trainees.

President Vo Van Thuong received Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture Hattori Seitaro and leaders of several localities in the Kyushu region such as Nagasaki, Miyazaki, Saga, and Kagoshima provinces during his visit to Fukuoka Prefecture on November 29, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The President asked Japanese officials to promote local cooperation pairs between the Kyushu region and Vietnamese localities; promote cooperation with Vinh Long and Binh Thuan provinces and Can Tho city through promoting exchange activities and delegation exchanges at all levels.

President Vo Van Thuong proposed promoting investment from Kyushu region enterprises in Vietnam, especially in areas where the locality has strengths such as processing, manufacturing, smart agriculture applications, and wastewater treatment. The President also suggested that localities increase the reception of Vietnamese workers and interns and increase cooperation in human resource training.

Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture Hattori and leaders of localities in the Kyushu region affirmed their desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese localities and to receive more high-quality workers and skilled interns from Vietnam.

Governor Hattori hopes to resume the Study Tour program for high school students to Vietnam, thereby promoting increased understanding between the young generations of the two countries.

Governor of Nagasaki Prefecture Oishi Kengo reported to President Vo Van Thuong about the cooperation between Nagasaki Prefecture and Hoi An City that dates back to the 16th century, as well as the close relationship between Nagasaki Prefecture and Quang Nam Province.

The Governors of Miyazaki, Saga and Kagoshima provinces highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community to the socio-economic development of the province; expressed their desire to promote cooperation in human resources and encourage the reception of more Vietnamese people to work and study in the province.

The Deputy Governor of Kagoshima Prefecture said that the province has a cooperative relationship with Hai Duong Province, affirming that efforts will be made to promote the opening of regular flights between Kagoshima Prefecture and Vietnam.

The President asked Kyushu regional officials to support and create favorable conditions for the 55,000 Vietnamese community to live, study and work successfully.

President Vo Van Thuong and his wife are on an official visit to Japan from November 27-30.

Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1973. On November 27, the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world. The President assessed this as "an important event, opening a new chapter" in Vietnam-Japan relations.

The Vietnamese community in Japan currently has about 500,000 people, making it the second largest foreign community. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on November 27 emphasized that Vietnamese human resources are an "indispensable presence" in Japan's socio-economic development process.
