Currently, the whole province has over 42,300 hectares of forest at very high risk of fire during hot days, mainly concentrated in region I, including 7 mountainous districts (Muong Lat, Quan Hoa, Quan Son, Ba Thuoc, Thuong Xuan, Nhu Thanh, Nhu Xuan) and region II, including midland and coastal plain districts such as Nghi Son town, Ha Trung, Dong Son, Hau Loc, Hoang Hoa...

In addition to objective causes such as hot weather and fires spreading from Laos, subjective factors caused by human impact also cause many difficulties for forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR). In particular, with nearly 10,000 hectares of pine forest, thick layer of humus, dry branches, fallen leaves under the forest canopy, if people use fire carelessly... will be a concern for forest fires during the hot season.
To protect forests, since the beginning of 2024, Thanh Hoa Forest Protection Department has advised the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments, branches and sectors to develop and implement a forest fire prevention and control plan, a plan to mobilize forces and means for forest fire prevention and control; develop a set of forest fire prevention and control combat maps at the provincial and district levels. Establish inspection teams for forest fire prevention and control in key districts with high risk of forest fires; promptly rectify and remove shortcomings, difficulties and obstacles in the process of directing and organizing the implementation of forest fire prevention and control work at the grassroots level.
By early April 2024, 100% of key districts had developed plans for forest fire prevention and control management; 1,046 grassroots forest fire prevention and control teams with more than 8,800 participants were completed, and plans were developed to mobilize forces, vehicles, and logistics to be ready for forest fire prevention and control. The Forest Protection Department has installed 11 high-resolution IP camera stations to take pictures of forests to meet the requirements for automatic early detection of forest fires. Regularly organize forest fire patrols and forest fire prevention and control on the forest fire surveillance camera system and at 53 forest fire guard points in key forest areas when forest fires are forecast to be level III or higher.
Forest rangers have coordinated with forest owners and authorities in coastal plain districts to handle flammable materials under the forest canopy by controlled pre-burning on over 62 hectares; renovate and repair over 33km of firebreaks; advised local authorities to proactively disseminate and popularize laws on forest protection and fire prevention; reviewed areas at high risk of forest fires and managed causes of forest fires.
As of April 5, there were no forest fires in Thanh Hoa, and forest security was maintained stably.
