On August 27, the VTV Cup 2024 international women's volleyball tournament ended the group stage with the most surprising result being that the host team Vietnam only ranked third in Group A, thereby having to face a strong opponent in the quarter-finals.
No team was eliminated after the group stage, but with only 3rd place out of 4 teams in Group A, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen and her teammates faced a big challenge in the quarterfinals when they faced Ha Nam Club (China), the second-placed team in Group B. However, according to Mr. Le Tri Truong - General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, to successfully defend the championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team must defeat all obstacles, including Ha Nam Club.
The biggest concern for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at the moment is the declining form of some key players such as Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh... so the coaching staff has to make adjustments but they have not yet brought high efficiency. Therefore, the biggest hope is still placed on the number 1 hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, who is maintaining the most stable form. In addition, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is also looking forward to two young faces, main attacker Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and middle attacker Pham Thi Hien. These two players have had moments of "explosion" when given the opportunity to play but still lack stability due to lack of experience in the field.
Having led the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to consecutive successes since 2023, fans expect coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to continue to "steer" the home team to overcome their fierce opponent, Ha Nam Club, to advance straight to the semi-finals. The quarter-final match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and Ha Nam Club will take place at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (August 29) and will be broadcast live on VTV2 and VTV Can Tho. If they overcome Ha Nam Club, Bich Tuyen and her teammates will meet the winner of the first quarter-final match between Expressway Club (Korea) and King Whale Taipei Club (Taiwan), which will take place at 12:00 p.m. on August 29.
Also on August 29, the remaining two quarter-final matches will take place between Korabelka Club (Russia) and Paint Masters Club (Philippines) at 2:30 p.m., and Kuanysh Club (Kazakhstan) and Aranmare Club (Japan) at 7:30 p.m.
