With the project "Sign by Sign", a sign language system supporting communication for the hearing impaired, the team of the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi won the 2024 New Generation Student Champion.
The final round of New Generation Students 2024 took place on November 9 in Hanoi and was a competition between 3 teams: Hanoi Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - Vietnam National University, and University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The final jury includes: Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Bach Bach - Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Union, Dr. Ta Bich Loan - Head of Entertainment Program Production Department of Vietnam Television, Ms. Ho Ha Thu Thanh - President of the Vietnam Institute of Board Members...
In the final round, the 3 teams went through 3 rounds: Reporting the overall results of the project, Supporting the debate, New generation students - Dare to break through. Accordingly, the 3 teams once again conveyed to the audience their 3 projects in the final round. These are the Sign by Sign project (University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), a sign language system supporting communication for the hearing impaired; the Aloi project (University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), an environmentally friendly food wrap made from aloe vera; the Tell Me project (Hanoi Medical University), a psychological counseling platform dedicated to patients' relatives, a group that is often overlooked during the treatment process.
As a result, members from the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi became the winners, winning a total prize worth 200 million VND. The remaining two teams won the runner-up position.
The Sign by Sign project of the University of Languages and International Studies - Vietnam National University, Hanoi is designed to convert sign language into text or voice, making communication more convenient for both users and listeners. Not only is it a support tool, the project is also a bridge to help deaf people integrate into the community more easily and confidently. The project not only demonstrates the creativity of Gen Z but also reflects the social responsibility in building an inclusive community where no one is left behind.
Evaluating the winning team, judge Ta Bich Loan commented that this is a team that always brings to the program a spirit of dedication and concern for the community. That spirit has always been spreading and inspiring everyone from the first round until now.
Along with the Champion title, the team from the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi also received the Most Favorite Award.
