Industrial production index increased in 55 localities

Accordingly, some localities with quite high growth rates are: Phu Tho increased by 31.2%; Bac Giang increased by 24.9%; Binh Phuoc increased by 14.8%... On the contrary, some localities with low growth rates or decreased growth rates are Ha Giang increased by 0.4%; Bac Ninh increased by 0.05%. Notably, Ha Tinh decreased by 9.0%; Quang Ngai decreased by 8.2%; Ca Mau decreased by 2.5%.

The General Statistics Office leaders commented that some localities had a relatively high increase in the IIP index due to the high increase in the processing and manufacturing industry and the electricity production and distribution industry. On the contrary, some localities had a low or decreasing increase in the IIP index due to the low or decreasing increase in the processing and manufacturing industry and the electricity production and distribution industry.

The General Statistics Office also said that industrial production in May continued to maintain a positive growth trend; up 3.9% over the previous month and up 8.9% over the same period last year.

In the first 5 months of the year, the industrial production index of the whole industry increased by 6.8% over the same period last year; of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 7.3% (the same period in 2023 decreased by 2.6%), contributing 6.4 percentage points to the overall increase; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 12.7% (the same period in 2023 increased by 1.2%), contributing 1.1 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 6.3% (the same period in 2023 increased by 5.9%), contributing 0.1 percentage point; the mining industry alone decreased by 5.2% (the same period in 2023 decreased by 2.4%), reducing 0.8 percentage points to the overall increase.

Notably, the production index in the first 5 months of 2024 of some key secondary industries increased sharply: production of rubber and plastic products increased by 27.4%; production of electrical equipment increased by 24.0%; production of chemicals and chemical products increased by 20.1%; production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 19.6%; metal production increased by 13.2% over the same period last year.

On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased lower than the average or decreased: production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 5.8%; food processing increased by 5.4%; repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment decreased by 11.8%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year.

To promote industrial development, the General Statistics Office proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade continue to promote the restructuring of the industrial sector towards increasing the proportion of processing and manufacturing industries and reducing the proportion of processing and assembly for industrial products manufactured in Vietnam; gradually remove difficulties for enterprises to increase competitiveness, build technical barriers for imported products to support domestic products, increase the localization rate...

Along with that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also set out tasks to ensure smooth production activities and promote industrial growth in the second quarter of 2024. Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade accelerates the progress of institutional completion, including important documents in the industrial sector such as the Law on Key Industries, the Law on Chemicals, etc. At the same time, it promotes the disbursement of public investment capital, reviews backlogs to soon put into operation key projects in the fields of electricity, oil and gas, processing industry, manufacturing, minerals, etc.

Director of the Department of Industrial and Construction Statistics Phi Thi Huong Nga, General Statistics Office, said that localities need to promote stimulus and promotion programs to increase people's purchasing power, help textile and garment, footwear enterprises, etc. reduce output pressure, and expand the domestic market in the context of export difficulties. Especially for industrial and supporting industries, localities need to organize many exhibitions to connect supply and demand, help enterprises find partners, and expand product output, etc.
