Regarding the incident of many workers being hospitalized after lunch at Hualida Thai Binh Garment Company Limited (abbreviated as Garment Company) on May 25, today, May 29, the Food Safety Department of Thai Binh province has made an official report.
According to this report, at 4:00 p.m. on May 26, the Thai Binh Province Food Safety Department received information about a suspected food poisoning incident at the Garment Company (Phuc Khanh Industrial Park, Phu Khanh Ward, Thai Binh City). Immediately after receiving the information, the Food Safety Department began investigating and verifying.
Accordingly, the activity of organizing mid-shift meals for workers at the Garment Company with more than 3,000 workers.
To organize mid-shift meals for employees, the company has contracted with 3 ready-to-eat meal suppliers in Thai Binh City (Dai Phuc Service and Trading Company Limited; Dung Hop Catering Company Limited and Sao Hom Service and Catering Company Limited). These 3 units have all been granted certificates of food safety qualified facilities.
On May 25, the company organized mid-shift meals for employees as usual at 11am and 12pm. Dai Phuc Service and Trading Company Limited provided 1,077 boxed meals; Dung Hop Catering Company Limited provided 1,063 boxed meals; Sao Hom Catering and Beverage Service Company Limited provided 1,017 boxed meals.
On the evening of May 25, the Garment Company received information that two workers had symptoms of food poisoning and had to be treated at Lam Hoa Thai Binh General Hospital. Through checking the meals, it was found that the two workers had lunch provided by Sao Hom Catering Service Company Limited. In addition, some workers also brought extra food from home.
On the morning of May 26, the company continued to receive information that 6 more workers showed signs of food poisoning and were being treated at Thai Binh Provincial General Hospital and Lam Hoa General Hospital.
Also in the morning of the same day, 19 employees at the company showed symptoms (stomach ache, bloating) and went to the company's medical room for examination. After taking medicine, these employees were stable and returned to work as usual; 10 employees asked for leave due to suspected symptoms of food poisoning, then also stabilized and returned to work the next day.
On May 27, 9 more people were recorded to have food poisoning and had to be treated at the above hospitals and Vu Thu General Hospital (Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province).
Through investigation, it was found that those who showed signs of food poisoning all consumed meals provided by Sao Hom Catering Service Company Limited.
Before the above information, the company stopped using the ready-to-eat meal delivery service provided by Sao Hom Catering Service Company Limited from noon on May 26.
As of 5:00 p.m. on May 29, 17/17 patients treated at the hospital were in stable health, with no deaths; 6 patients were discharged, and 11 patients were preparing for discharge procedures.
Through investigation and information collection from the patient, from the Garment Company and Sao Hom Catering Service Company Limited, it was found that the cause of the worker's poisoning could not be determined because Sao Hom Catering Service Company Limited destroyed the food samples at 10:55 a.m. on May 26, after 24 hours had passed.
Based on the symptoms and time of clinical manifestations in the patient, the cause is suspected to be due to microorganisms contaminating food during processing.
Accordingly, 1,017 people ate, 46 people got sick and 17 people had to be hospitalized with symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
It is known that the Food Safety Department of Thai Binh province will continue to work with the Garment Company and Sao Hom Food and Beverage Service Company Limited, to review violations and handle administrative violations according to the provisions of law.
