On March 14, information from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee said that after surveying and working with the leaders of Hoa Binh province, the two sides agreed to invest in a traffic project connecting Ho Chi Minh road (in Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province) with National Highway 6 (in Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province).

The project has a route length of 88.5km, of which the section passing through Thanh Hoa province is about 69km and the section passing through Hoa Binh province is about 19.5km. The total investment of the project is expected to be about 15,400 billion VND (of which the section passing through Thanh Hoa province is about 8,500 billion VND; the section passing through Hoa Binh province is about 6,900 billion VND).
The investment and construction of this traffic route will form a main traffic axis connecting the Northwest and North Central regions. Gradually complete the important traffic axis connecting the regions along the East-West economic corridor, connecting from the coastal road, National Highway 10, National Highway 1, the North-South Expressway in the East, Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 217, National Highway 6, Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Son La - Dien Bien Expressway according to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 153/QD-TTg, dated February 27, 2023.

The invested project will connect provinces from the mountainous region of the Northwest of the country (Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh) to the North Central coastal region with a system of large seaports and airports (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An).
At the same time, it creates momentum for tourism development, goods circulation through the logistics system... promoting socio-economic development, contributing to improving the competitiveness of the economy in each locality, and strengthening security and defense.
The two Thanh Hoa localities agreed on the route plan, with the starting point at Ho Chi Minh road in Quang Trung commune, Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province; the end point at National Highway 6 in Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district, Hoa Binh province; the connection point between the two provinces at Km 69+00, in the border area between Ba village, Lung Cao commune, Ba Thuoc district and Ton Trong village, Van Son commune, Tan Lac district.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung and Hoa Binh Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Phi Long affirmed the significance, necessity and importance of investing in the route, not only creating momentum to promote socio-economic development of the two provinces, but also contributing to strengthening regional connectivity, bringing many benefits to the provinces in the Northwest region.
To implement the project, the leaders of the two provinces agreed to establish a working group headed by the Vice Chairmen of the People's Committees of the two provinces in charge of the transport sector, to regularly exchange information and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles to speed up the implementation progress.
Strive to complete relevant documents and procedures to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision on project investment policy in September 2024.
