Students share their feelings at the Math and Vietnamese Language Exchange Day for illiteracy eradication students in Lang Son province in 2024.

On August 22, the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province organized a Math and Vietnamese Language Exchange Day for provincial-level illiteracy eradication students in 2024. This is one of the activities to promote communication on illiteracy eradication activities under Sub-project 1 - Project 5 - National target program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Lang Son province in 2024.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training organized a Math and Vietnamese Language Exchange Day for students of literacy classes in 4 district clusters. There were 222 students who completed the literacy class in 2023, 2024 or are studying the literacy class in 2024 in the communes and towns participating in the festival. As a result, 189 students won prizes, including 7 first prizes, 35 second prizes, 57 third prizes and 90 consolation prizes.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, the propaganda and mobilization of students to participate in the Festival encountered many difficulties due to students' hesitation and many family chores due to the agricultural harvest season. However, thanks to the coordination of propaganda and mobilization units, enough students were mobilized to participate in the Festival.

There are many students who are quite old, some have grandchildren, many couples... all actively study and participate in the Festival. Many examples of efforts to overcome difficulties, arrange family work to participate in the Festival.

One example is student Nong Van Tuyen, who has limited health due to a brain tumor since he was 14 years old. Now he can barely do anything with his right hand, working and writing with his left hand. At night, his 4th grade niece rides her bike with a flashlight in front, while Mr. Tuyen follows on foot. During the cluster-level exchange, Mr. Nong Van Tuyen won first prize.

Or like student Long Thi Se (57 years old), although her house is 20km away from the cluster festival venue, her family is short of people, but she still arranges her work, asks her grandchildren to cut grass and herd cows so she can participate. Or like student Than Thi Viet, who is raising her children alone and her elderly mother is paralyzed, asked her neighbors to look after her children so she could participate in the festival competition and won second prize.

At the provincial Math and Vietnamese Language Exchange Day for illiteracy eradication students, 88 students with good achievements were selected from 222 students who participated in the cluster-level competition.

During the exam, the majority of students actively took the exam, many of the exams were presented clearly, had beautiful handwriting, were quite proficient in math, wrote well, had ideas to introduce local products, and contributed to the economic development of their families and villages.

At the end of the festival, the organizing committee awarded 3 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 17 third prizes and 41 encouragement prizes to students with high achievements at the festival.

Through the Festival, we have promoted communication on literacy activities, enhanced the ability to use Vietnamese, calculation skills, increased social communication and learning abilities; created a useful and healthy playground, created opportunities for literacy teachers and literacy students to exchange; contributed to improving the quality of teaching and learning in literacy classes in the province.
