On November 17, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang inspected the construction progress of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project, connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.

Reporting to Minister Nguyen Van Thang, the representative of My Thuan Project Management Board (investor - under the Ministry of Transport) said that the two biggest difficulties that the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project is facing are mobilizing sand resources (only 510,000/718,000 m3 ) and site clearance (GPMB).

Specifically, after more than 1.5 years of construction, the project has only received 13.2/17.6 km of the entire route. Of which, Ben Tre province has handed over 9.35/9.65 km (6 households have not agreed to hand over), Tien Giang province has only handed over 3.93/7.97 km (535 households have not handed over) because the locality has not been allocated capital to pay the people. Similar to Tien Giang, Ben Tre is also slow to relocate some infrastructure on existing land, leading to difficulties in construction here.

Up to now, the total construction volume of 6 packages has reached nearly 34% (estimated at 1,117/3,302.8 billion VND), on schedule. Of which, 2/6 bridges have been completed (3 bridges are under construction, Xoai Hot bridge in Tien Giang has not yet been cleared). At the main bridge section (crossing Tien River), 4/4 concrete pillars have been completed, construction is underway to burn 5/32 tower pillars and 1/2 anchor pillars have been completed, more than 2 months ahead of schedule compared to the contract with the construction unit. 4/38 drainage culverts have been deployed, 9.2/9.92 km of road have been cleared.

Rach Mieu 2 main bridge has completed 2 months ahead of schedule.

After a field inspection at the construction site of Rach Mieu 2 main bridge, Minister Nguyen Van Thang highly appreciated the efforts of the investor's representatives and construction contractors, especially at Rach Mieu 2 main bridge, the progress was very good. The Minister requested the leaders of the People's Committees of Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces to continue to promote site clearance work to promptly hand over to the construction contractors in order to accelerate the project's progress to complete in 2026.

Regarding the proposal to supplement the land acquisition and clearance capital of the Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee, Minister Nguyen Van Thang said that on November 14, the Ministry decided to provide an additional VND525 billion to the project in 2023 (VND525 billion for land acquisition and clearance, VND100 billion for construction packages). Currently, the Ministry of Transport is carrying out procedures to deploy this capital, and it is expected that the money will be transferred to the project next week.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project is 17.6 km long, starting at the intersection of Dong Tam and Provincial Road 870 (Tien Giang), ending at Km16+660 National Highway 60, 0.71 km from the existing Ham Luong Bridge (Ben Tre). The main bridge is 1.97 km long, 17.5 m wide, with 4 lanes; the road section is 15.15 km long, 20.5 m wide, meeting level 3 delta standards with 4 motor lanes, 2 mixed lanes, and a design speed of 80 km/h. The total investment is 6,810 billion VND, from the state budget.

The project started construction on March 29, 2022, divided into 6 construction packages. The road construction packages have a contract period of 26 months, to be completed before August 2025. The main bridge package is Rach Mieu 2 (crossing the Tien River) with a construction period of 34 months, to be completed before December 2025.
