I just had my tonsils removed a week ago. How long will it take before I can eat and drink normally? Can I drink alcohol during Tet? (Van Toan, Long An)

After tonsillectomy, patients should pay attention to issues such as bleeding, infection, and pain control. Tonsils are located deep in the throat and mouth, a special location, so the care process for the surgical site is different from that of external wounds.
The time needed for the tonsillectomy site to heal completely is about 2-3 weeks, depending on each patient's physical condition, diet, and care.
A varied, balanced diet promotes rapid wound healing, reduces the risk of bleeding, and fights infection. However, because the surgical site is located directly on the food and drink lines, choosing the type of food is very important.
Doctors often ask patients after tonsillectomy to eat soft, liquid, cold foods such as porridge, milk, yogurt, minced meat, vegetables, soft fruits... Limit spicy, strong spices, hot, hard foods because they can easily damage the tonsillectomy area. Combine with taking medication, avoid talking loudly, talking too much, strenuous exercise...

Alcoholic beverages in general, including wine and beer, should be avoided during the postoperative period. Alcohol changes the permeability of the mucosa, destroys the surface lipid layer that protects the mucosa, and negatively affects the healing process after tonsillectomy.
You should abstain from drinking for at least the entire post-operative period (about 2-3 weeks) or as long as possible. It is best not to drink alcohol during this time. To be safe, you should go back for a check-up so that your doctor can assess your current surgical wound and give you the most appropriate advice.
