According to Hanoi City Police, scammers impersonate tax agency employees, contacting people via phone, Zalo, Facebook... to invite victims to the tax agency to confirm information and declare taxes electronically.
These subjects then convince people to download fake applications on the Google Play Store (CHPlay). When agreeing to install these fake software, the scammers can control and monitor the victim's phone; transfer money from bank accounts and payment applications saved on the phone.
Hanoi City Police reported the case of Mr. T. (residing in Chuong My, Hanoi) in which he received a phone number claiming to be an employee of the Chuong My District Tax Department, instructing him to declare taxes electronically. The subject asked him to install the "fake" Public Service software. After installing it, he suspected that he had been scammed and checked his bank account and discovered that more than 200 million VND had been deducted from his bank account, so he went to the police station to report it.
To avoid fraud, Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant against the above tricks. Absolutely do not install software or applications as requested by strangers calling.
If you install fake software, there is a risk of taking control of the entire phone. Messages and calls to the victim's phone will be controlled by the application, secretly transferred to the server managed by the subject, and will not be displayed on the victim's phone. More dangerously, the subjects remotely take control of the mobile phone, then access the account, and transfer all the victim's money.
