Vu Quang orange growers are in the fruit harvest season.

Every year in mid-November, on the hilly gardens of Vu Quang, gardeners are busy harvesting fruit after a long period of care. This year, oranges are selling at a good price, so people are very excited, promising to bring in a "warm hand" income.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hao in Hop Duan village (Huong Minh commune) said: "This year, my family's 2 hectares of oranges yielded about 9 tons of fruit. Although it is still early in the season, oranges were purchased by traders at the garden at a fairly high price. Currently, we have sold nearly 3 tons at 30,000 VND/kg. Being trained and taking care of oranges in an organic way, without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers, the oranges produce beautiful and sweet fruit, making the sale more convenient and the selling price better."

This year, the orange output of Vu Quang district is estimated at about 20 thousand tons of fruit.

At the 3-hectare orange garden of Mr. Thai Dinh Van (village 5, Quang Tho commune), these days, traders are also busy buying. Mr. Van happily shared: "This year, the weather is erratic, so the oranges have fallen quite a lot. My family's garden is estimated to harvest more than 20 tons of fruit, about 3 tons lower than last year. Thanks to building a brand and the quality of the oranges meeting standards, my family is selling them at 33,000 VND/kg. If the weather in the coming days is warm and sunny, the price of oranges will increase even more."

According to Mr. Van, according to the annual trend, orange prices will increase at the end of the year, so his family has not harvested in bulk but is focusing on selecting early ripe fruit. According to calculations, if the weather and consumption market are favorable, his family will earn more than 600 million VND.

Thanks to the focus on applying technology to production, the quality of Vu Quang oranges is increasingly improved.

According to orange growers in Vu Quang, in recent years, thanks to the focus on applying technology to production, the quality of local oranges has been increasingly improved. Farmers have proactively used fruit covers to prevent sucking insects that damage oranges such as fruit flies, butterflies, snails, etc., pesticides; and used manure instead of chemical fertilizers to improve the productivity and quality of oranges.

In particular, the people and authorities at all levels in Vu Quang have increased promotional and introduction activities to expand the market and increase the value of Vu Quang oranges. Thanks to that, the consumption of oranges by local people is more convenient than before, and income has also improved.

Vu Quang oranges are being sold for 30 - 35 thousand VND/kg.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luyen - a trader in Vu Quang area said: "Local orange products are known to customers in many other provinces and cities. Of which, Da Nang and Hanoi are the most potential markets. At this time, we have connected to consume and promote products at some agricultural stores in Hanoi and are highly appreciated by consumers.

Currently, oranges are being purchased at a price of 30 - 35 thousand VND/kg depending on the type. In the coming days, we will continue to connect and participate in fair activities in other localities to distribute and widely promote Vu Quang orange specialties."

Vu Quang district regularly promotes local orange products at trade promotion conferences and fairs inside and outside the province.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vu Quang district, the district currently has nearly 2,300 hectares of oranges, of which nearly 1,700 hectares are for harvest. This year, the area of oranges for harvest has decreased by more than 500 hectares due to people replanting degraded areas with pests and diseases that do not ensure fruit quality. It is estimated that by the end of the season, people will harvest about 20,000 tons of fruit, about 5,000 tons lower than in 2022.

“In recent times, the locality has organized many activities to promote and advertise Vu Quang orange products to consumers; replicate business models, distribute products with the Vu Quang orange brand. Connect product consumption on e-commerce platforms and introduce products to participate in fairs inside and outside the province to help people consume conveniently. In addition, to help people have high income at the end of the season, the locality has also focused on directing communes to proactively guide people to visit gardens regularly to promptly detect factors that are harmful to oranges, especially at the end of this year" - Vice Chairman of Vu Quang District People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Son said.
