On January 6, at the working session between the delegation of General Secretary To Lam and the Gia Lai provincial government, a number of major investors attended and shared the development potential of Gia Lai and the Central Highlands region.

Leaders of corporations believe that the Central Highlands region has great potential in agriculture and tourism that needs to be developed.

Thaco has ambitions to do large-scale agriculture in the Central Highlands.

Assessing the advantages of the Central Highlands region, Mr. Tran Ba Duong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (Thaco) - said that this land has great potential in agriculture, especially livestock and crop farming.

In Gia Lai province, Thaco is having a project to raise cattle and grow fruit trees on a scale of up to 10,000 hectares.

This billionaire expressed his ambition to build a value chain for the production and export of fresh fruits and agricultural products in this region in addition to the projects he has invested in Laos and Cambodia.

Turn the region into a large-scale agricultural production center in which Thaco plays the role of a key enterprise, applying technology in livestock breeding, cultivation, production, processing and export. Organize a complete logistics, transportation and warehouse system for the Central Highlands region.

According to billionaire Tran Ba Duong, to develop sustainable agriculture for the region, we must aim at the export market. This requires stable quality and output of agricultural products, and a value chain for production and export of agricultural products and fruits. This is the bottleneck of Gia Lai and the Central Highlands at present.

Mr. Duong shared that every day, about 50 containers of Thaco agricultural products run on Highway 19, and it is expected to increase to 100 containers next year. Organizing a complete logistics system will reduce costs and enhance the competitiveness of agricultural products in the region.

At the conference, Mr. Tran Ba Duong proposed that Gia Lai provincial authorities pay attention to removing difficulties for Thaco, and committed to successfully implementing this model within 3 years.

Sun Group Chairman: ready to participate in beautifying lands

Besides agriculture, tourism is also a field that investors assess as having much untapped potential in the Central Highlands.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group Corporation - recognized that Gia Lai province has a lot of potential for tourism development, but needs to strengthen links with the provinces in the Central Highlands.

This group proposed that there should be mechanisms and policies to attract investment in transport infrastructure connecting roads and air routes to the Central Highlands and expressed that Sun Group is ready to participate in this.

To successfully implement, Mr. Dang Minh Truong said that the locality needs to have a mechanism to attract large investors to invest in agriculture, tourism and services in the Central Highlands and simplify administrative procedures.

Mr. Truong cited the examples of Sapa (Lao Cai) and Ba Den (Tay Ninh), after large enterprises invested, the number of tourists increased sharply, bringing in large revenues for the locality and contributing to socio-economic development.

From his experience, Sun Group leaders believe that the more difficult the location, the more effective the tourism exploitation will be.

“Investing in remote areas is very expensive, but we are willing to join the locality to change and beautify the land!” – Mr. Dang Minh Truong shared.

Note indigenous cultural elements

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - the socio-economic development and urbanization in the Central Highlands and Gia Lai in recent times have had a certain impact on indigenous culture.

In particular, the indigenous cultural elements of the ethnic groups in the Central Highlands are increasingly fading away, such as communal houses, traditional festivals, and folk arts. The preservation and inheritance of the language and writing of the ethnic groups are also affected. These are issues that need to be considered and noted when investing in development in the region.

Mr. Hung suggested that the locality develop tourism in a sustainable direction, associated with exploiting the traditional cultural values of the Central Highlands ethnic groups.
