The song “Memories of Father” (Music by Ngoc Khue, Poetry by Minh Tu) was invited by the authors to be recorded by singer Mai Chi at the end of last year. Honestly, listening to Mai Chi sing “Memories of Father”, almost everyone was moved, the song seemed to come from the singer’s heart and go straight to the hearts of the listeners, like Pushkin’s verse: “The five continents and four seas go together/ And bring the song to burn the hearts of many people”. I kept wondering why this young singer sang this new song so well and emotionally. It seems that in addition to having a beautiful and rare gifted soprano voice, each lyric contains deep emotions and memories of her own beloved father...

Mai Chi's hometown is Thai Binh, her parents are both hard-working farmers. Then this art-loving girl boldly went to Hanoi to take the entrance exam to the Military University of Culture and Arts. These diary entries about her love for her parents were written 7 years ago, when she first left home to study in the city, but time has not faded her deep love for her parents:
“I miss you, Dad, I miss you, Mom. I’m coming home after the exam. I’m sorry I didn’t do well in my major exam yesterday. I know that you have high expectations and are proud of me, but because I lost my voice, I can’t do anything. Today, Brother Diep sent me this poem, and when I read it, I just cried. My family is a farmer, my parents have worked hard to raise me, I love and am grateful to them. So I will try my best...
"Do you have summer vacation, son?"
Still have time to help dad for a few days
This summer my mother and I are not well.
Alone, father worked hard all season.
These days the weather is suddenly sunny and rainy
Turning over at night with sore shoulders
Mom sighed, I miss you so much.
But knowing that you are busy, so forget it.
In the city, do you miss home, my child?
Work, study, alone hard
Because my hometown is poor, try your best, my child.
Feeling sad when mentioning dad: farmer.
These days my whole village is bustling.
Harvest rice, plant corn, flood new straw road
This year is a good harvest, everyone is excited.
Next time when you come back, I will send you some gifts.
Do you have summer vacation?
Dad just asked that, but dad can do it all.
I am far away, in the middle of a busy city
Do you miss home, do you miss the fragrant taste of straw?
These diary entries are from 17-year-old Mai Chi, a girl from Kien Xuong, Thai Binh, who came to take the entrance exam for the Military University of Culture and Arts. On the first night away from home in the capital, she cried because she missed her father and mother. She also cried because she felt sorry for herself and because her voice was hoarse, so she felt that she had not done well on the exam. And she felt even more sorry for her father and mother, knowing that in her hometown, her parents were waiting for her with many wishes for her...

Perhaps it was these confidences that made her sing so emotionally the song "Memories of Father", as if this were the singer's own feelings:
"Tomorrow, dad will return to the white sand countryside
The Lao wind blew painfully on the back
Father wades through deep and shallow fields
Remember the love again
Remember the mountain silhouette
Memories I will never forget...”
Truly, a song is only beautiful and touches people's hearts when the singer knows how to put his whole heart into each word. Mai Chi always touches and touches the hearts of the listeners. It is true that she is a beautiful singer, even more beautiful in military uniform, it is true that she has a rare and gifted soprano voice, but first of all, in my opinion, her singing is always full of emotions, very emotional as if she puts her whole passionate heart into her singing.
And so, listening to Mai Chi sing “My dear child, my precious child” or “My mother gave birth to me from the top of the mountain”, or: “Hey, the Nhong bird, the Kơ-tia bird, the peacock spreads its wings/Do you know, bird, that/Who loves and cherishes Uncle Ho as much as the people of the Central Highlands” and most recently “Memories of Father”: “Missing you, father, I came to the mountain town/When I met you, father, I was so happy/The road was long and winding with many passes and steep mountains/You have grown up, father, but I still think you are still a child…”... I don’t know if when she sang those lyrics, her eyes filled with tears, but many people who heard her sing felt as if hot tears were silently flowing down their cheeks...
Thank you to the authors Ngoc Khue - Minh Tu for giving life to a good song, and that song has given wings to Mai Chi's voice to fly higher and farther. And thank you also to singer Mai Chi for making the song even better, even more touching. Just like the artist Khanh Van sang "Bai ca hy vong" in the past, like the artist Tan Nhan sang "Xa khoi" in the past, or artist Thanh Huyen sang "Duong cai dam dang", artist Bich Lien sang "Ve day voi duong tau". The relationship between people who create art is always wonderful when they share the same heart beating strongly for the public and for the listeners...
It is easy to understand why today Mai Chi has become a name, a brilliant artistic star of the soldiers. This excellent young singer is currently a professional lieutenant of the Border Guard Art Troupe and of the entire army, the love of the soldiers and the general public who love the arts of our country...
